Finance Manager Controller - North York - Ontario PURPOSE OF THE POSITION The Finance Manager, Controllership is responsible for overseeing and strengthening core financial control functions, including Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Capital Projects, Business Partnering and some banking activities. This role ensures the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial operations through strong controllership, effective process governance, and robust internal controls. The role also partners closely with business and operational stakeholders to enhance operational efficiency, mitigate financial risk, and maintain strong financial discipline across the organization.
SCOPE AND MAGNITUDE Soul Restaurants Canada, part of the Soul Foods Group, comprises of over 230 Restaurants and Stores including KFC, Taco Bell, and Starbucks brands. POSITION FUNCTIONS Finance Controllership & Operations (55%) Lead and oversee Accounts Payable operations to ensure timely and accurate invoice processing, vendor payments, account reconciliations, and compliance with internal controls and company policies. Oversee accounting and financial governance of capital projects, ensuring accurate project cost tracking, capitalization compliance, and adherence to established financial controls, policies, and standard project governance protocols. Manage Fixed Asset accounting processes, including capitalization, depreciation, disposals, transfers, and periodic asset reconciliations.
Manage cash deposits, banking activities, and treasury-related operational processes to ensure accuracy, completeness, and effective cash controls. Support month-end and year-end close activities, including preparation and review of reconciliations, accruals, reporting schedules, and supporting documentation related to controllership functions. Act as a key finance business partner to operational and cross-functional teams by providing financial insights, supporting decision-making, resolving operational issues, and ensuring alignment between financial controls and business objectives.
Process Improvement & Leadership (25%) Identify, recommend, and implement process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen controls, and improve reporting accuracy. Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to streamline financial workflows, improve operational processes, and support business initiatives. Drive standardization and continuous improvement across controllership processes and procedures.
Partner with internal and external auditors by providing required documentation, analysis, and support during audit activities. People Coaching & Development (20%) Coach and develop team members through ongoing feedback, performance management, goal setting, and career development planning. Identify training and development opportunities to strengthen technical capabilities, leadership skills, and overall team effectiveness.
Foster a positive, collaborative, and inclusive work environment that supports employee engagement, continuous learning, and professional growth. Build and maintain strong working relationships across the finance team and broader organization to encourage teamwork and knowledge sharing. Restaurant and Store management teams Franchisor business leaders and partners Specialised or Technical Knowledge/Skills Education and Qualifications Post-Secondary Education in Finance, Accounting, or Business. MBA an asset Accounting designation CPA, CMA preferred. QSR experience an asset. 5yrs+ of progressive finance experience with strong controllership exposure Experience and Skills Self-starter with ‘Can Do’ attitude who can work independently and lead a team.

Demonstrate ability to use expertise and skills to see the bigger picture and develop ideas in pursuit of positive outcome for the team and the organization. Ability to explain complex finance matters to non-finance business partners.
Result driven, flexible, and able to embrace and respond to change effectively. High literacy and proficiency with MS Office and Sage accounting software with learning agility. Comfortable working in an environment of consistently competing priorities and drive the right agenda.
