## Job Description

**Job Opportunity at Hani's Bakery + Café** As the **General Manager**at Hani's Bakery + Café, you will serve as a senior operational leader responsible for the day-to-day success of Hani's Bakery + Café and our upcoming hospitality project. Working closely with the leadership team, you will oversee service and retail operations, team performance, staffing, scheduling, labor management, guest experience, facilities, operational standards, and financial performance across both concepts.

We are seeking an experienced, thoughtful, and highly engaged hospitality leader who is equally comfortable leading a team, solving operational challenges, and being present on the floor. You will be responsible for building a positive and accountable workplace, developing team members, and ensuring that our standards of hospitality, quality, organization, and care are consistently reflected in every aspect of the business.

**The Job Expectations:** 
- Provide day-to-day operational leadership for Hani's Bakery + Café and our upcoming hospitality project, ensuring both concepts operate efficiently, consistently, and in alignment with company standards.
- Lead, support, and develop the front-of-house and retail teams while partnering closely with culinary leadership to create a cohesive and collaborative operation.
- Cultivate exceptional hospitality and a welcoming environment for all guests across in-store, digital, catering, and other guest experiences.
- Maintain a visible and active presence during service, supporting the team, identifying operational needs, resolving challenges, and ensuring exceptional execution.
- Oversee staffing, scheduling, attendance, timekeeping, payroll review, and labor deployment while balancing the needs of the team with operational and financial goals.
- Recruit, onboard, train, coach, and develop employees while identifying opportunities for advancement and building a strong pipeline of future leaders.
- Conduct regular employee feedback, performance evaluations, coaching, and corrective action in partnership with the leadership team and in accordance with company policies and applicable employment practices.
- Hold managers and team members accountable to company standards while fostering a workplace rooted in respect, communication, hospitality, consistency, and professional growth.
- Partner with culinary leadership to ensure seamless communication and coordination between front-of-house, retail, kitchen, production, and stewarding teams.
- Maintain expert knowledge of our food, beverage, retail, and service programs and ensure teams are properly trained to confidently communicate that knowledge to guests.
- Oversee guest relations and service recovery, responding to guest feedback, concerns, and complaints with empathy, professionalism, sound judgment, and appropriate follow-through.
- Monitor sales, labor, cost controls, productivity, and other key operating metrics, using business results to identify opportunities and improve performance.
- Prepare and review operational reports, labor reports, sales information, and other performance data with the leadership team.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, cost management, and financial planning while maintaining responsible control of operating expenses.
- Oversee front-of-house and retail inventory, ordering, product availability, cash handling, deposits, and other operational controls.
- Ensure opening and closing procedures, cash management, security procedures, and daily operational checklists are completed accurately and consistently.
- Maintain exceptional standards of cleanliness, organization, presentation, maintenance, and overall physical condition throughout guest-facing and operational areas.
- Coordinate facilities maintenance and repairs, proactively identifying issues and working with vendors and the leadership team to resolve them promptly.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Health requirements, food safety standards, company policies, workplace safety requirements, and applicable employment practices.
- Partner with the Administrative & Operations Coordinator and other members of the leadership team on purchasing, vendors, events, catering, wholesale, special projects, documentation, and operational initiatives.
- Support the planning, opening, and continued development of our upcoming hospitality project, including staffing, training, systems implementation, operational readiness, and opening procedures.
- Establish and continuously improve systems, SOPs, training materials, service standards, and operational processes that support consistency and sustainable growth across both concepts.
- Coordinate communication between departments and leadership, ensuring priorities are clearly communicated, action items are followed through, and operational challenges are addressed proactively.
- Lead regular team and management meetings, communicate company priorities, and ensure teams have the information and resources necessary to succeed.
- Demonstrate calm, professional, and solutions-oriented leadership, particularly during high-volume service, unexpected challenges, and periods of change.
- Perform additional responsibilities and special projects as needed to support the continued success and growth of Hani's Bakery + Café and our upcoming hospitality project.

**What We Need From You:** 
- 3+ years of hospitality management experience, with demonstrated experience leading teams and overseeing day-to-day restaurant, bakery, café, or similar hospitality operations.
- Experience in a high-volume restaurant, bakery, café, or other quality-driven hospitality environment.
- Demonstrated experience leading, developing, and holding teams accountable while creating a positive and respectful workplace.
- Strong understanding of restaurant or bakery operations, hospitality, service standards, staffing, scheduling, labor management, inventory, facilities, and financial controls.
- Experience managing labor and operating expenses and interpreting sales, labor, and operational reports.
- Strong working knowledge of HR practices, employee documentation, coaching, performance management, and corrective action.
- Exceptional hospitality instincts with demonstrated experience resolving guest concerns and building strong guest relationships.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across departments and levels of the organization.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, resourceful, and solutions-oriented leadership style with a willingness to be actively involved in daily operations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, POS systems, scheduling platforms, and hospitality management software. Experience with Toast is preferred.
- NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Food Protection Certificate, or ability to obtain one promptly upon hire.
- Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field is preferred but not required; equivalent hospitality leadership experience is equally valued.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- English fluency is required; Spanish is preferred.

- An annual salary of $85,000–$95,000, based on experience.*
