Overview Canem Systems is a leading full-service electrical and mechanical contractor, offering comprehensive services across Canada. With eight offices across Canada and a dedicated workforce of over 700 professionals, Canem Systems operates in diverse public and private market sectors. Our internships and co-ops are designed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned Supervisor and Technical Mentor. Projects are scoped in alignment with your term length, and typically focus on a current construction project.
We are seeking a student to join us for a 4 month co-op position starting in September 2026. This position will be based out of Red Deer, Alberta. Responsibilities Project Coordination: Coordinate drawings and work specific scope/trades.
Review trade quotes, verify material quantities, hours, and rates. Participate in project meetings. Conduct deficiency walks and update deficiency logs.
Issue warranties. Take and coordinate progress photos. Update field drawings and produce as-built drawings.
Field Coordination: Perform quantity takeoffs. Coordinate sub-trade work. Verify site conditions and coordinate with drawings.
Supervise sub-trade work. Set up and maintain record keeping. Layout site lines and grades using total station.
Scheduling: Update project schedules. Create manual schedules and update schedules. Obtain scheduling information from sub-trades.
Create and maintain graphical scheduling. Monitor manpower productivity. Qualifications You are currently enrolled in an Electrical Engineering program.
You will complete at least one more semester of education following your internship and possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Ability to lead and operate within an environment where change happens frequently. Ability to forge, grow and maintain positive relationships.

Ability to work collaboratively with a positive attitude. Residency, or a valid work permit which would allow you to work for Bird Construction or one of our wholly owned subsidiaries. If you are selected for a role with client specific requirements, you may be required to successfully complete a pre-employment Medical and/or Alcohol & Drug testing.
