### Position Overview

**Primary City/State:** Mesa, Arizona

**Department Name:** Surg-Hosp

**Work Shift:** Day

**Incentive:** $10,000 for experienced operating room scrub techs

### Shift Details

- Employment Type: Full‑time

- Hours per Week: 3‑12s | 36 hrs or 4‑10s | 40 hrs

- Shift Start: 6:40 A.M.

- On Call: Yes, nights, weekends, and holidays on rotation

- Weekend shift differential: Flat rate $3/hr

- Night shift differential: 18% when applicable

### Position Summary

This position selects and places surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. Scrubs and provides instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during surgical procedures. Participates in the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned. Is proficient to scrub on a minimum of two surgical specialties.

### Core Functions

- Prepares for surgical procedures: pulls appropriate instruments and supplies, ensures good working order, reviews case carts, troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment.

- Anticipates the surgeon's needs: passes instruments, retracts tissue, maintains competency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties.

- Demonstrates aseptic technique and universal precautions: disposes of sharps and trash, places used supplies into case cart, participates in counting sharps, instruments, and sponges, prepares instruments for cleaning.

- Ensures surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate.

- Assists with OR turnover between cases: participates in stocking, replenishing supplies, cleaning operating rooms.

- Participates in or leads training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned.

- May provide business support to the department, including administrative tasks.

- Follows safety procedures regarding medication labeling, specimen handling, sharps safety, time‑out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments. Participates in emergency call rotation. Proficient to scrub on at least two surgical specialties.

### Minimum Qualifications

- High school diploma or GED.

- Current Basic Life Support certification.

- Certified as a surgical technologist or two to three years of experience in a surgical technologist role.

- Must be registered with State Regulatory Agency where applicable.

- Must be able to scrub proficiently on a minimum of two surgical specialties.

- Manual dexterity and ability to maintain professional decorum during stressful emergent situations.

- Conscientious, organized, responsive to surgeon and patient needs.

- Ability to stay abreast of new developments in the field.

### Preferred Qualifications

- Graduation from an accredited school of surgical technology.

- Additional related education and/or experience.
