Data Engineer
Job Responsibilities
- You own the end-to-end development of our data infrastructure, from design and architecture to implementation and maintenance, ensuring reliable data pipelines and accessibility for data consumers.
- You collaborate with business owners to understand data needs and translate them into practical, durable, and cost-effective solutions.
- You provide training and feedback to colleagues, participate in code reviews, and improve pipeline quality and performance. You are the go-to expert for data engineering, from data quality and query optimization to platform architecture.
- You stay up to date with emerging technologies and best practices in data engineering (storage, compute, data quality, lineage & observability) and guide the digital team in making durable technical choices.
- You mentor other data practitioners and support their professional growth. Together with our data scientist, you drive the continuous improvement of the digital team and other data experts.
- You are responsible for selecting relevant training programs and setting internal standards and best practices in data engineering.
Required Skills and Experience
- Strong expertise in setting up data infrastructure and pipelines, with deep knowledge of SQL.
- Experience with data platforms like Databricks, Confluent, or Snowflake, while understanding the underlying technologies and working independently from PaaS offerings.
- Proficiency with pipeline orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect, and the ability to select the best tool for each use case.
- Ability to work independently on complex projects, breaking down objectives into manageable tasks and supporting colleagues when needed.
- Knowledge of data management and modeling techniques (e.g., Kimball methodology) and experience with Python libraries such as Pandas, Polars, Plotly, and Altair.
- Proven track record in data transformation and visualization, with experience in setting up BI environments. Practical knowledge of Superset is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to balance pragmatic solutions and long-term technical sustainability.
- Solid experience with cloud-based platforms and container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes. You are comfortable with CI/CD pipelines, linters, automated tests, vulnerability screening, and Infrastructure as Code.
- Ability to work in a diverse, international environment, effectively collaborating with both in-office and remote colleagues. Proficiency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
- Passion for water conservation and sustainability. You recognize the impact of your role in solving water challenges and are motivated to contribute.
- Experience in the water or process industry is considered a plus.
