Position Overview

We are seeking a self-driven and technically skilled Data Engineer / Analyst to lead AST’s data infrastructure and reporting initiatives. This person will serve as the cornerstone of AST’s growing data and business intelligence efforts—building the foundation for digital transformation across operations, production, finance, quality, and HR.

The ideal candidate is comfortable getting into the technical details of data engineering (ETL, databases, APIs) while also understanding the business context behind the data to deliver impactful reports, dashboards, and insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain automated pipelines to extract data from ERP, scheduling, quality, maintenance, and HR systems
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to understand data needs and translate them into clean, structured datasets and visual dashboards
  • Develop SQL queries and scripts to transform and normalize raw data from multiple sources
  • Build and manage databases or data warehouses to support long-term storage and reporting
  • Create executive dashboards and department-level reporting tools using Power BI, Tableau, or similar platform
  • Perform ad-hoc and recurring data analyses to support production, labor planning, job costing, inventory tracking, and performance KPIs
  • Identify gaps in existing data systems and propose architectural improvements to enhance visibility and automation
  • Work closely with IT, Operations, Finance, and Engineering to ensure accurate and consistent data definitions across the organization
  • Help prepare AST for future business intelligence tools, APS system integration, and predictive analytics initiatives
  • Document processes, maintain data dictionaries, and implement data validation procedures to ensure accuracy and reliability
  • Support forecasting, budget modeling, and long-term planning with clean historical datasets

Key Projects & Deliverables

  • Operations Performance Dashboards: Real-time metrics for yield, scrap, and efficiency by department
  • Labor Utilization Model: Track labor cost allocation and employee efficiency across departments
  • Executive Dashboards: Weekly summaries of company-wide output, backlog, cost, and revenue
  • Job Costing Tools: Compare estimated vs. actual costs by job, part, and customer
  • HR & Recruiting Reports: Track hiring pipelines, turnover, tenure, and training effectiveness
  • APS Readiness Audits: Prepare ERP system data for scheduling integration and optimization
  • Scheduling & Capacity Models: Visualize schedule adherence and forecast workload by work center

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in a data engineer, data analyst, or business intelligence role
  • Strong proficiency in SQL, data wrangling, and building automated data pipelines (ETL)
  • Familiarity with ERP systems, relational databases, APIs, and scheduling tools
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or similar dashboarding tools
  • Understanding of manufacturing operations, job costing, inventory systems, and production metrics preferred
  • Strong analytical thinking and the ability to translate complex datasets into actionable insights
  • Effective communicator able to work across multiple departments to align data strategy with business goals
  • Passion for accuracy, automation, and continuous improvement
