The Role

We’re on the lookout for a Financial Accountant to join our team in Townsville HQ! Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, this role is pivotal in delivering accurate financial reporting, ensuring compliance with statutory obligations, and supporting the wider Financial Control & Advisory team.You’ll contribute to month-end and year-end close processes, financial analysis, external audits, and the continuous improvement of systems and controls. You’ll thrive here if you combine strong technical accounting skills with a proactive and analytical mindset.

Your Day-to-Day Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review half-year and annual financial statements in line with accounting standards
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Support the preparation of monthly Board reports
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide financial insights and support data-driven decisions

Team Leadership & Operations

  • Act as a positive mentor and contributor to team performance
  • Streamline financial operations through automation and improved processes
  • Deliver financial training to internal stakeholders where needed

About You

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA or CA qualification
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a similar financial accounting role
  • Strong technical knowledge of accounting standards and financial control frameworks
  • Experience using ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Business Central)
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills

Bonus points if you possess the below:

  • Experience in the financial services industry
  • Familiarity with financial modelling or dashboard tools (e.g., Power BI)
  • Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities
  • A mindset for continuous improvement
