Position Overview
We are seeking a Market Access Consultant to join our team and support our growing portfolio of medical device clients. This role is ideal for a professional with strong knowledge of U.S. reimbursement pathways, payer strategy, and healthcare market dynamics who can advise clients on how to optimize coverage and payment for emerging technologies. The consultant will work closely with both internal teams and external stakeholders, including medical device leadership, healthcare providers, and payers.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic reimbursement and market access guidance to medical device companies pre- and post-launch.
- Conduct landscape assessments including payer policy reviews, coding and coverage analyses, and competitive benchmarking.
- Advise on CPT/HCPCS coding strategy, coverage pathways, and value messaging to payers and providers.
- Support development of reimbursement tools such as coding guides, prior authorization resources, and coverage compendiums.
- Serve as a subject matter expert during client meetings, presentations, and payer discussions.
- Collaborate with Walnut Hill's prior authorization and patient access teams to ensure alignment of strategy and execution.
- Track evolving reimbursement policy and regulatory changes impacting novel medical technologies.
- Engage directly with payers to present clinical and economic evidence, influence favorable policy changes, and support improved coverage for innovative medical technologies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with payer medical directors, policy analysts, and coverage committees to shape dialogue around new device adoption.
- Develop payer engagement strategies, including evidence submission, advisory board participation, and targeted outreach, to support long-term coverage success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in health policy, healthcare administration, business, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
- 5+ years of experience in market access, health economics, reimbursement consulting, or payer strategy.
- Strong understanding of U.S. healthcare reimbursement systems, including Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer processes.
- Experience with coding strategy (CPT, HCPCS, ICD-10) and coverage policy development.
- Demonstrated experience in payer engagement, including presenting clinical and economic value propositions to payer stakeholders.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and client relationship management skills.
- Willingness to travel to clients as needed.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and deliver high-quality outputs on tight timelines.
