Mechanical Engineer – Job Description
A Mechanical Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and improving mechanical systems and products. They apply principles of physics, mathematics, and material science to create efficient, reliable solutions across industries such as manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, energy, robotics, and HVAC.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components, products, and systems using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA, Creo).
- Conduct engineering calculations, simulations, and analyses for mechanical performance, stress, heat transfer, or fluid flow.
- Create and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
- Prototype, test, and validate mechanical designs to ensure compliance with performance and safety standards.
- Troubleshoot mechanical issues and propose corrective actions or design improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, manufacturing engineers, and project managers.
- Oversee manufacturing processes, materials selection, and quality control.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and project updates for internal teams and stakeholders.
- Ensure mechanical designs comply with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Support cost estimation, feasibility studies, and project planning.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.).
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals.
- Experience with prototyping, testing, and data analysis.
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and quality assurance.
- Problem-solving, analytical, and critical-thinking skills.
- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or working toward certification.
- Experience with FEA/CFD software (ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL).
- Background in robotics, automation, HVAC, automotive, or aerospace.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
