Vice President, Corporate Controller
for our client, the nation's largest operator, manager, and franchisor of chiropractic clinics. By delivering convenient, affordable, and insurance-free care to millions of patients annually, the company has become recognized as a key industry leader. We are looking for a seasoned and forward-thinking leader to oversee all aspects of financial reporting, accounting operations, and internal controls.
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this executive will play a pivotal role in maintaining regulatory compliance, ensuring precision and timeliness in reporting, and championing process enhancements across the finance function. A successful candidate will bring a strong track record of leadership in a publicly traded company, excelling in fast-moving environments while cultivating a culture built on transparency, accountability, and high performance.
This full-time, hybrid role is based in Scottsdale, Arizona.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Reporting
- Take ownership of preparing and filing all SEC documents, including 10-K and 10-Q, ensuring compliance and timeliness.
- Oversee the monthly and quarterly close cycles, driving accuracy and efficiency.
- Communicate financial reporting issues and outcomes directly with senior executives and the Audit Committee.
Accounting Operations, Compliance & Administration
- Provide oversight for accounts payable, accounts receivable, cooperative accounting, payroll, tax filings, and equity programs.
- Guarantee the accuracy of payroll processing and adherence to all tax requirements (income, sales/use, and franchise).
- Collaborate with HR, Legal, and outside advisors to manage payroll and equity administration effectively.
SOX & Internal Controls
- Build and sustain a strong internal control structure, continuously refining processes to mitigate risks.
- Manage SOX compliance testing and lead the remediation of identified gaps.
- Educate finance staff on control responsibilities and embed compliance into daily operations.
Process Optimization & Technology Enablement
- Drive efficiency by simplifying accounting workflows and reducing manual processes.
- Partner with IT to implement automation tools and enhance the overall financial systems environment.
Audit & Regulatory Preparedness
- Lead the full cycle of annual and quarterly external audits.
- Deliver well-documented, accurate audit schedules and technical papers.
- Monitor evolving accounting standards and regulatory requirements, ensuring proactive compliance.
Team Leadership & People Development
- Attract, mentor, and retain high-caliber accounting professionals.
- Promote a team culture built on accountability, growth, and inclusiveness.
- Model adaptability and empathy, particularly during times of change or transition.
Strategic Business Partnership
- Act as a trusted advisor to the CFO and senior leadership team on accounting and operational issues.
- Provide technical accounting guidance on strategic initiatives such as acquisitions, share repurchase programs, or new revenue models.
- Deliver variance analyses and actionable insights that help inform executive decision-making.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related discipline; an active CPA license is mandatory.
- A minimum of 15 years of advancing responsibility in accounting and finance, including at least 5 years directing senior-level functions within a publicly traded organization.
- Comprehensive understanding of U.S. GAAP, public company reporting requirements, Sarbanes-Oxley controls, and compliance frameworks.
- Demonstrated success overseeing audits of significant scale, as well as experience with payroll, stock compensation, and tax obligations.
- Strong orientation toward process improvement and technology, with a history of using automation to shorten close timelines and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Proven leadership ability to motivate, develop, and manage high-performing finance teams.
- Outstanding communication capabilities with the talent to convey intricate financial matters in a clear, actionable way for diverse stakeholders.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
In addition to a competitive salary in the range of $200,000 to $225,000 DOE plus incentive compensation, this position offers medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401k with a generous company match; and 2 weeks of accrued PTO, and flexible remote work permitted during the winter season.
