Application Support Engineer
Haachi Business Solutions Private Limited
Job Description
APPLICATION SUPPORT ENGINEER
Electronic Trading Technology
Mumbai | Global Team
Automation | Electronic Trading | Linux
ABOUT THE FIRM
Our client is a global quantitative trading firm with a deep engineering culture. Founded on game theory and probabilistic thinking, the firm operates across all major listed financial products and asset classes, with particular strength in derivatives and options markets.
Competitive advantage is built on ultra-low latency systems, proprietary hardware acceleration, and technology that is entirely in-house. The Mumbai technology team is a genuine part of the global organisation — working closely with counterparts in Sydney and Hong Kong. This is not an outsourced or isolated function.
This is a firm where engineers own outcomes. You will not be handing off issues to another team or waiting for a response. The expectation is full ownership from alert to resolution, with a culture that rewards people who take initiative and build for the future.
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is not a traditional break-fix support role. The firm is deliberately building an application support function that moves towards automation — engineers who can own production issues end-to-end, identify systemic weaknesses, and proactively improve the environment.
At the same time, the current support workload is significantly hands-on. The right candidate is equally comfortable working through a complex live-trading incident at speed and then stepping back to build automation that prevents the same problem from recurring. If you expect a fully-automated environment from day one, this role is not for you.
If you want to be the person building that environment, it is.
This is a Mumbai-based role, primarily supporting Indian market operations. As part of Our Clients's broader APAC technology function, there is also the potential to contribute beyond India over time — the team structure means tasks can flow across time zones between Mumbai, Sydney, and Hong Kong. That broader connectivity is part of what distinguishes this from a purely domestic position.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Production Support: Monitor, triage, and resolve issues across live trading systems during market hours. Take full ownership of incidents from first alert through to root cause — this is not a ticket-and-escalate environment.
- Automation Development: Identify repetitive or error-prone processes and build automation using Python, Shell, Ansible, Airflow, or equivalent tooling to reduce manual intervention and improve system reliability.
- Deployments & Rollouts: Manage code deployments, configuration changes, and version upgrades across live trading systems, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
- Monitoring & Alerting: Build and maintain monitoring frameworks (Grafana, Graylog, Nagios, or equivalent) to proactively detect issues before they impact the trading desk.
- Cross-Team Collaboration: Work closely with Trading, Quant Research, Developers, and Infrastructure teams. The team collaborates directly with counterparts in Sydney and Hong Kong, and you will be part of that working relationship.
- Documentation: Maintain clear technical runbooks and process guides to ensure knowledge transfer and operational continuity.
REQUIREMENTS
Must-Have
Electronic Trading Experience
- Hands-on support of front-office electronic trading systems in a live production environment. The candidate must understand the pace and urgency of live market operations.
Automation Capability
- Able to write production-quality scripts to automate support tasks. Python is primary; Shell scripting is expected as a baseline.
Linux Proficiency
- Primary operating environment. RHEL, Rocky Linux, or equivalent commercial Linux experience.
End-to-End Problem Ownership
- Must drive issues from alert to resolution — not escalate and wait. This is non-negotiable.
Manual Support Readiness
- Much of today's workload is hands-on. Candidates who are not willing to engage with manual support will struggle here.
Nice-to-Have
- Exposure to Indian equity markets (NSE, BSE) — preferred but not essential
- Windows OS familiarity
- Workflow and messaging tools such as Airflow or Kafka
- Database skills — MongoDB, MySQL, or equivalent
- Knowledge of reference data or market data concepts
- Familiarity with derivatives or options instruments
- PowerShell scripting
WHAT THIS ROLE OFFERS
- Part of a global team — the Mumbai office works directly with Sydney and Hong Kong, with potential to contribute beyond Indian markets over time
- Automation mandate — a genuine remit to build and improve, not just maintain
- Engineering culture — work alongside quant researchers, proprietary system developers, and trading technologists
- Ownership from day one — no siloed L1/L2 hand-offs; you own the problem
- Stability and depth — a well-capitalised firm with long-term investment in its technology infrastructure
