Assistant General Manager
Bad Idea
Job Description
About Us
Bad Idea is a wine-focused restaurant in the heart of East Nashville, housed in a converted church. We've been honored by Michelin, the James Beard Foundation, and the New York Times.
Our team is small by design. The work is intentional. The wine program is serious. And the space itself — a former church with all the light and quiet that implies — demands a certain kind of hospitality: warm, unhurried, and genuinely curious about the people who walk through the door.
We're looking for an Assistant General Manager who leads from the floor, not the office.
The Role
As AGM, you'll be a primary presence in the dining room on a nightly basis — the person our guests remember and our team looks to. You'll work closely with the owner/GM to shape the guest experience from greeting to farewell, support and develop FOH staff, and help uphold the standards that define us. This is a hands-on leadership role with real ownership and room to grow within an acclaimed independent restaurant.
What You'll Do
- Lead nightly FOH operations and serve as the face of hospitality for our guests
- Coach, support, and develop a close-knit service team with consistency and care
- Maintain service standards and help evolve them as the restaurant grows
- Partner with the GM on scheduling, staff communication, events, and operational flow
- Assist with onboarding and ongoing training for new team members
- Handle guest feedback with grace, accountability, and good judgment
What We're Looking For
- 2+ years of FOH leadership experience in a fine or elevated casual dining environment
- A genuine love of hospitality — for guests and for the people you work alongside
- Wine literacy and enthusiasm for ongoing learning
- Strong communication skills and composure under pressure
- Someone who takes pride in the details and finds joy in a well-run service
