Spiga Ristorante and Cocktail Bar on the Upper East Side is a vibrant Italian destination offering authentic Roman-style cuisine, creative cocktails, and warm neighborhood hospitality in the heart of Manhattan. We are seeking a highly organized, high-energy Assistant General Manager with a positive, can-do demeanor to drive revenue, customer acquisition, boost sales, and deliver exceptional guest experiences. This hands-on role reports directly to the ownership team and offers strong potential for growth within our restaurant.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Floor Leadership & Service Excellence
Serve as the primary Floor Manager for 5 evening shifts and 3–4 day shifts per week (approximately 50–55 hours), leading front-of-house operations with energy and precision. Maintain high standards of Italian hospitality, anticipate guest needs, resolve issues swiftly, and create memorable dining experiences during peak service while driving table turnover and sales. Responsible for optimal scheduling of staff to maximize service, while managing expenses. - Staff Supervision & Team Development
Recruit, train, coach, and supervise servers, hosts, bartenders, and support staff. Foster a positive, high-morale team environment through regular feedback, performance reviews, and leadership by example. Ensure consistent execution of service standards and develop future leaders. - Inventory Control & Operational Efficiency
Manage all inventory and supplies for front of house—including ordering, receiving, storage, rotation, and par levels. Conduct audits, control costs, minimize waste, and partner closely with ownership on vendor relationships and budgeting to protect profitability. - Restaurant Marketing & Sales Growth
Actively contribute to marketing efforts that increase visibility, reservations, and repeat business. Develop and execute local promotions, special events, concierge outreach, and neighborhood partnerships to drive traffic and capacity in the competitive Upper East Side market. - Additional Operational Support
Collaborate directly with the ownership team on daily operations, P&L review, labor management, safety/compliance (NYC DOH, ServSafe), opening/closing procedures, and maintaining a spotless, welcoming environment. Step in wherever needed to ensure smooth service and business success.
Qualifications & Desired Skills
- 3+ years of progressive experience in upscale-casual or Italian/Mediterranean restaurants in NYC, with strong floor management background.
- Highly organized with high energy, a positive demeanor, and proven ability to drive sales and capacity in a fast-paced setting.
- Excellent hospitality instincts, attention to detail, and leadership presence.
- Experience with inventory systems, cost control, and basic P&L analysis.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- NYC ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain immediately prior to start)
- Italian language proficiency a plus
