Job Summary
The Associate Managing Director is the senior executive leader with full accountability for the overall performance, strategic direction, and profitability of Mondi’s paper bag converting operation in Romeoville, Illinois. This role carries full P&L ownership and responsibility for commercial success, operational excellence, safety, people leadership, and sustainable long‑term value creation.
Your Mission
- Define and execute the long‑term strategy for the Romeoville business in alignment with regional and Group objectives, delivering profitable growth and long‑term competitiveness
- Drive organic growth through customer expansion, market development, product innovation, pricing strategy, and capacity optimization
- Maintain full ownership of P&L performance, including revenue growth, EBITDA, cash flow, cost control, and capital efficiency
- Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and long‑range financial plans while ensuring strong financial governance and compliance
- Lead all manufacturing and supply chain operations, driving safety, quality, productivity, reliability, and on‑time delivery
- Champion continuous improvement and lean methodologies to improve operational performance and cost competitiveness
- Foster a strong safety culture with a zero‑incident mindset and ensure compliance with all environmental, health, safety, and regulatory requirements
- Lead sustainability initiatives focused on waste reduction, recycling, energy efficiency, and compliance with Mondi and customer standards (SQF, ISO 14001, customer audits, among others)
- Partner closely with Sales and act as senior executive sponsor for key customer relationships, ensuring strong commercial discipline and customer satisfaction
- Build, coach, and lead a high‑performing leadership team while driving succession planning, leadership development, and organizational capability
- Establish a culture of accountability, engagement, inclusion, and continuous improvement across the site
- Serve as the primary interface with corporate leadership and external stakeholders, providing clear, data‑driven reporting on business performance, risks, and opportunities
Your Profile
Education & Leadership Background
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field required; MBA preferred.
General Management & P&L Expertise
Proven experience as a Managing Director, General Manager, Plant Manager, or equivalent senior leadership role with full P&L responsibility.
Manufacturing & Industry Experience
Strong background in industrial manufacturing, ideally within paper, packaging, pulp & paper, or converting operations.
Commercial & Financial Acumen
Demonstrated success driving operational excellence, pricing discipline, margin improvement, and capital investment decisions.
Operational Excellence & Transformation
Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives, lean manufacturing programs, and large‑scale capital projects.
People & Culture Leadership
Credibility with frontline operations and executive stakeholders; ability to drive cultural change and organizational transformation.
Additional Requirements
Willingness to travel approximately 20–25% within the United States with occasional international travel.
