Job Description
Markette, the brand new European restaurant with Caribbean influence, is the first concept from Owners Chef India Doris & Alex Pfaffenbach, located in the heart of Chelsea. Opened in July 2025, the restaurant has quickly earned major acclaim with Chef India being the recipient of the Michelin Young Chef Award for U.S. Northeast Cities 2025.
Markette is known for its vibrant, personal menu, drawing on Chef India’s London upbringing and her Caribbean heritage, with influences from both Jamaica and Europe woven throughout the menu.
Who you are:
The Chef de Cuisine is responsible for leading the kitchen with a strong sense of ownership, ensuring exceptional food quality, consistency, and a seamless service experience. This role works closely with Chef & Owner, India Doris to manage daily operations, develop the team, and uphold the standards that define Markette. You’re someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, genuinely loves their craft, takes pride in building and leading a high-performing team, and brings both structure and creativity into the kitchen every day.
What you’ll do:
Lead and manage all aspects of daily kitchen operations
Oversee and support the Sous Chef team, ensuring strong communication and accountability
Run service with confidence, maintaining consistency, quality, and flow at all times
Write and manage schedules
Set the tone for a positive, collaborative, and professional kitchen culture
Provide ongoing feedback, training, and development for the team
Ensure systems are in place for organization, cleanliness, and efficiency across all BOH operations
Report directly to Chef India and ownership on performance and operations
What we need from you:
~10 years of experience in high-level kitchens
Proven experience in a leadership/management role
Strong understanding of service execution and quality control
DOH compliance knowledge + Food Handler’s Certificate required
A team builder who values accountability, consistency, and growth
What you’ll get from us:
Salary: $90,000–$110,000 (based on experience)
