Overview
Vice President of IT / Chief Information Officer (CIO) at a leading university. A hands-on technology leader who thrives at the intersection of strategy, innovation, and execution. The role is part of the President’s Cabinet and involves shaping the future of a forward-thinking university by influencing institutional strategy, modernizing technology, and driving meaningful impact across campus.
Responsibilities
- Shape the future of technology by developing and executing a practical, results-driven IT strategy
- Serve as a trusted advisor to executive leadership and translate technology into real business and academic value
- Establish governance and policies around AI use; drive responsible and impactful AI adoption across academics and operations
- Support faculty in integrating emerging technologies into the classroom
- Oversee outsourced IT vendors and managed service providers; negotiate contracts, manage performance, and ensure accountability
- Optimize cost, performance, and risk across all partners
- Partner with enrollment leadership to improve recruitment and retention; lead CRM strategy, data integration, and analytics initiatives; build dashboards for smarter decision-making
- Own cybersecurity and risk management with executive and board visibility; ensure compliance with regulations such as FERPA
- Oversee infrastructure, enterprise systems, and user support; ensure reliable, secure, high-performing IT services
- Stay involved in key operational decisions and escalations
- Lead a lean, high-performing IT team and foster a culture of accountability, service, and continuous improvement
Teaching & Learning
- Partner with faculty to enhance classroom and digital learning environments; drive innovation in instructional technology
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor’s degree in IT or related field
- Required: 10+ years of progressive IT leadership experience (nonprofit preferred)
- Required: Strong experience managing vendors and outsourced services
- Preferred: Experience with CRM and enrollment systems

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $165,000–$175,000 (based on experience)
- PTO: 3 weeks + major holidays; paid holidays, including Winter Break; five floating holidays; summer Fridays (early closure); sick leave and sick leave bank

- 401(k) Match: up to 9% after one year of service; fully vested after 3 years
