Chief Technology Officer (machine Manufacturing)
3ECRUIT
Job Description
CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER (CTO)
WHAT YOU WANT TO KNOW
- Location: Barcelona
- Contract: Permanent, senior leadership role
- Language: English is the working language across the business
- Team size: 20–30+ engineers across hardware, software, electronics & materials
- Technology: Proprietary, next-generation printing hardware working with functional, high-viscosity materials
THE OPPORTUNITY
This is a rare CTO role for someone who wants to own a genuinely differentiated hardware platform, not maintain incremental improvements on legacy tech.
The company has already achieved what most never do:
- Fully in-house proprietary technology
- A complete, integrated hardware and software platform
- Proven materials capability that unlocks applications previously considered impossible
You’ll lead the transition from cutting-edge R&D into robust, reliable, industrial-grade systems ready for global deployment. This is about taking breakthrough physics, materials science, and precision engineering and turning it into something customers can run 24/7.
YOUR IMPACT
As CTO, you’ll be responsible for:
- Defining and owning the long-term technology roadmap
- Turning prototypes into modular, production-ready systems
- Ensuring quality, reliability, and manufacturability at industrial scale
- Leading a highly multidisciplinary engineering organisation across hardware, software, electronics, firmware, and materials
- Acting as the senior technical authority with customers, partners, and investors
This is a role for someone who enjoys technical depth but can also zoom out and make the right architectural and strategic decisions.
WHAT YOU’LL BE WORKING ON
- Advanced printhead and fluid-handling systems
- Complex system architecture across mechanics, electronics, and software
- Intelligent software platforms
- Design-for-manufacture and industrialisation of deep-tech hardware
- Strategic partnerships with research institutes and industrial partners
WHAT MAKES SOMEONE SUCCESSFUL HERE
- 10+ years in deep-tech engineering environments (additive manufacturing, inkjet, robotics, precision electronics, or similar)
- A proven track record of scaling hardware from lab to industrial reality
- Comfortable leading across disciplines, even if your core expertise sits in one
- Hands-on when needed; strategic when required
- Calm, patient, and credible in long hardware development cycles
