Our program is rooted in Montessori principles and is committed to developing the whole child — intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically. Our athletic program is an extension of that mission, emphasizing skill development, sportsmanship, teamwork, and building the habits and attitudes that support active, healthy lives.POSITION OVERVIEWWashington Montessori School is seeking a part-time Year-Round Coach, PE Teacher, and Sports Van Driver for the 2026–27 school year.
This position supports the Upper Elementary and Middle School athletic and physical education programs across all three seasons — Fall, Winter, and Spring — and is ideal for someone who is energetic, reliable, and passionate about working with young athletes. Onboarding begins August 31, 2026.RESPONSIBILITIESCoachingServe as head or assistant coach for one of the school’s sports offerings each season (soccer, cross country, basketball, ski, or tennis).Organize and lead practices that build fundamental skills, foster teamwork, and develop each student-athlete’s confidence and love of sport.Coach games and meets, motivating student-athletes in a manner consistent with the school’s athletic philosophy and mission.Communicate with the Athletic Director regarding team progress, scheduling, and any student concerns.Model sportsmanship, positivity, and the school’s values in all interactions with students, families, and opposing teams.Physical EducationTeach one section of Grades 6–8 PE on Wednesday afternoons under the guidance of the Athletic Director.TransportationServe as a team driver each season, transporting student-athletes to and from away games and meets in 14-passenger school vans.Must hold or be willing to obtain an “A” endorsement on a valid Connecticut driver’s license prior to transporting students.Follow all school and state regulations for student transportation, ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers.SCHEDULEThe standard weekly commitment for this position is as follows:Monday & Thursday: 3:15–5:00 pmWednesday: 2:15–5:00 pmAll commitments follow the school’s athletic calendar. There are typically 5–6 early departure or late return days per season to accommodate travel to away events; candidates must be flexible around these occasional schedule variations.
