Job Description
We are looking for a communications professional with strong media instincts and a passion for shaping compelling narratives. In this role, you will proactively engage journalists and media stakeholders, identify newsworthy angles, and elevate organisational initiatives into stories that resonate with the public. You should be confident in reaching out to the media and able to translate ideas into narratives that gain traction and relevance.
The successful candidate must be news sensitive, possess confidence working with senior stakeholders and be experienced in engaging media stakeholders. Candidate will work closely with senior leadership to elevate ISCA’s visibility, influence and credibility across key media and stakeholder platforms.
Key Responsibilities:Media Strategy & Public PositioningIdentify newsworthy opportunities, trends and policy developments relevant to the Institute and the accountancy profession Recommend and drive proactive communications strategies, including media releases, commentary pieces, thought leadership and interviews Shape compelling communications angles that position ISCA as a trusted and relevant voice in business, finance and professional issues
Media Relations & Press EngagementBuild and develop strong working relationships with media stakeholders Pitch stories proactively to relevant media outlets to secure high-quality coverageManage media enquiries professionally and within tight timelines
Content Development & Executive CommunicationsDraft and refine media releases, statements, speeches, talking points and commentary articles Collaborate with internal teams and external agencies on key publications, including the annual report Translate technical matters into clear and compelling public-facing narratives
Issues & Crisis CommunicationsMonitor reputational risks, media coverage and public sentimentsDevelop holding statements, Q&A packs and crisis communications materials Support management in navigating and responding to sensitive issues
Internal Collaboration & AdvisoryWork closely with internal business units of ISCA, and its subsidiaries ISCA Academy and ISCA Cares, to identify media angles worth amplifying Advise stakeholders, including senior management, on communications approach and positioningEnsure consistency of messaging across all public communications
Requirements:Degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Business or a related disciplineCandidates with relevant experience in media or communications will also be consideredMinimum 5 to 8 years of relevant experience in corporate communications, media relations, journalism, PR agency or newsroom environments Experience engaging media, including pitching stories and handling media queriesStrong news sense and storytelling skillsExperience handling sensitive communications or crisis situations preferred Prior experience in professional services, membership bodies or finance sectors is advantageousExcellent writing, editing and narrative development skills (working knowledge of Chinese is an advantage, to support engagement with Chinese-language media and coverage) Established media contacts preferred Strong news judgement, with the ability to identify and develop media-worthy storiesConfident stakeholder management, including senior leadership engagement Able to work in a fast-paced environment, calm under pressure with sound judgementStrategic thinker with hands-on execution ability
