Job Description
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Corporate Attorney with a strong background in real estate and residential homebuilding to support our growing organization. This role will provide strategic legal guidance across corporate transactions, land acquisition, development, construction, and compliance within the State of Colorado. The ideal candidate is business-minded, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-focused environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Corporate & Transactional Support
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of corporate and commercial agreements
- Support entity formation, governance, and corporate structuring
- Advise leadership on legal risks and business strategies
- Oversee legal aspects of land acquisition, entitlement, zoning, and permitting in Colorado jurisdictions
- Review and negotiate purchase agreements, easements, development agreements, and joint ventures
- Conduct title review and manage due diligence for land transactions
- Homebuilding & Construction
- Draft and negotiate construction contracts, vendor agreements, and subcontractor agreements
- Advise on construction-related disputes, defect claims, and warranty issues under Colorado law
- Ensure compliance with Colorado building codes, regulations, and licensing requirements
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to applicable Colorado real estate, construction, and corporate laws
- Develop and implement internal policies and risk mitigation strategies
- Manage outside counsel as needed
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with acquisitions, development, construction, and finance teams
- Provide practical, business-oriented legal guidance
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in Colorado (required)
- 5+ years of experience in corporate law, with a focus on real estate and/or homebuilding
- Strong knowledge of Colorado land use, zoning, construction law, and real estate transactions
- Experience working in-house or with developers/homebuilders is highly preferred
- Excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives
- Clear communicator with strong interpersonal skills
- Highly organized with attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Preferred Experience
- Experience with residential development and production homebuilding in Colorado
- Familiarity with HOA documents, CC&Rs, and community development structures
- Background in handling construction defect claims or litigation management
