Cost Estimator
Location: Aurora, Ontario
Work Model: Hybrid (3 Days In-Office)
Salary: $85,000 - $105,000 CAD
Position Overview
A leading automotive manufacturing company is seeking an experienced Cost Estimator to support quoting and engineering activities for automotive stampings and welded assemblies. The role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, evaluating manufacturing feasibility, and supporting cross‑functional teams to ensure cost‑effective and production‑ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for automotive stampings and welded assemblies
- Develop cost models and complete customer quotations
- Analyze engineering changes for cost impact and manufacturability
- Review enquiry documents for completeness and production feasibility
- Support manufacturing planning using process and simulation tools
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, and project teams on costing activities
- Support design optimization for cost-effective manufacturing
- Maintain and update costing information within internal databases (CIM/CDB)
- Execute estimating activities according to PDP workflows and timelines
- Provide cost analysis support to local and global project teams
- Participate in the development of internal estimating standards
- Act as a key contact for cost-related inquiries across departments
Qualifications
- 5+ years of engineering experience within automotive stampings or welded assemblies
- 3+ years of cost estimating experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and cost drivers
- Proficiency with estimation tools, Microsoft Excel, and costing databases
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CAD software such as Visi
- Experience with CIM and CDB costing systems
- Exposure to simulation tools or manufacturing process development
- Experience working with global teams
- Automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier experience preferred
- APQP/PDP exposure considered an asset
- Experience supporting design for manufacturability (DFM) initiatives
