Counselor International Education
M.M Advisory Services
Job Description
About MMAM.M Advisory Services has worked in international education recruitment for over 15 years, partnering with Canadian institutions on student recruitment strategy and conversion across India and South Asia. We work with a select number of university partners - our model is depth of engagement, not breadth of client portfolio. MMA's leadership was awarded the Governor-General's Medallion in 2014 for dedication to promoting Canadian education interests in India.
The RoleWe are looking for an experienced Recruitment Counsellor to manage the full student journey across India - from first engagement through to confirmed enrolment. This is a hands-on role. You will counsel students and families on their study-abroad options, guide them through the application and admission process, maintain active relationships with education agents and school counsellors, and ensure students move through the pipeline without stalling. The role combines direct student engagement with the operational discipline needed to convert interest into enrolment. You will work alongside a senior Recruitment Advisor within a small, focused team.
The expectation is clear: every student in the pipeline has a plan, every follow-up happens on time, and every conversion opportunity is pursued to conclusion.
Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Counselling & Family EngagementCounsel prospective students on university programmes, admission requirements, scholarship opportunities, campus life, and career pathways.Engage parents and family members who are actively involved in the decision - answering questions on tuition structure, payment timelines, visa process, and living arrangements. In Indian recruitment, parents are frequently the decision-makers on financial and logistical matters; comfort engaging families directly is essential.Conduct virtual and in-person counselling sessions - one-on-one meetings, group webinars, peer-to-peer sessions with current students.Address student concerns and barriers - competing offers, financial hesitations, programme fit questions - with informed, honest guidance.
Pipeline Management & ConversionOwn the student pipeline across India - from application submitted through offer issued, offer accepted, deposit paid, visa lodged, and enrolment confirmed.Run structured follow-up across WhatsApp, email, and phone - re-engaging students who have gone quiet, nudging offer-holders toward acceptance, and supporting students through each stage.Track pipeline movement daily; identify students who are stalling and take proactive steps before they disengage.Coordinate document collection from students, parents, and school counsellors - following up persistently and professionally until submissions are complete.Ensure warm handovers between team members when students transition across stages; maintain continuity of the student's experience throughout.
Agency & Partner EngagementMaintain regular communication with education agency partners - monitoring student pipelines they manage, providing timely updates on admission decisions, and ensuring agent-sourced students receive consistent follow-up.Brief agency counsellors on admission updates, intake-specific requirements, and conversion expectations.Gather intelligence from agents on student sentiment, competitor activity, and market trends; share structured observations with the team.Build productive working relationships with key agency counsellors across India.
School Visits & Field ActivityRepresent the university at school visits, career fairs, and counsellor briefings during peak recruitment periods (August-November, January-March).Engage school counsellors as referral partners - providing accurate programme information and maintaining relationships between cycles.Travel is planned and purposeful - not a year-round circuit.
Reporting & Pipeline DisciplineMaintain accurate, up-to-date records of all student interactions and pipeline movements in the team's CRM system.Provide weekly pipeline updates: stage-wise student counts, conversion progress, stalled applications, and follow-up activity.Flag stalled students and pipeline gaps in weekly updates.
Your Impact Will Be Measured ByThis role is not about activity volume - events attended, contacts logged, or fairs visited. Your impact is measured by what actually moves:Students who enrol. Pipeline progression from offer to acceptance to deposit to visa to enrolment.
The number of students who complete the journey is the primary measure.Pipeline health. The percentage of your active pipeline that is progressing versus stalling. A well-managed pipeline has fewer cold students and fewer surprises.Follow-through completion.
Every student who has received an offer has a follow-up plan, and that plan is being executed. No student goes cold because of a gap on our side.
If your strength is in the daily discipline of moving students forward - the WhatsApp follow-up, the parent conversation, the document chase, the agent check-in - and you measure your own success by who actually enrolled rather than who you spoke to, this role is designed for you.
What We Are Looking ForEssential5-8 years of experience in international student recruitment, study-abroad counselling, or higher education admissions - with demonstrable outcomes in student conversion, not just activity volume.Strong understanding of the Indian student and parent decision-making process - what drives commitment, what causes hesitation, and how family dynamics shape the decision.Proven ability to manage a student pipeline end-to-end - not just initial counselling, but the sustained follow-up and coordination required to move students from offer to enrolment.Comfort engaging parents and family members directly - particularly on financial and logistical questions. In this market, the parent conversation is often the conversion conversation.Experience working with education agents - managing relationships, monitoring student progress through agent channels, and coordinating across multiple partners.Strong written and spoken English; professional, clear communication across WhatsApp, email, and phone.Self-directed and reliable in a remote working environment - you manage your own pipeline, your own follow-ups, and your own schedule.
DesirableFamiliarity with Canadian higher education - programmes, admission cycles, visa requirements, scholarship structures.Experience counselling or recruiting students from markets beyond India - Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka.Knowledge of Indian school boards (CBSE, IB, ISC) and the school counsellor ecosystem.Comfortable using WhatsApp as a primary professional communication channel.Having studied abroad personally - brings first-hand perspective to student and family conversations. Why Join MMA15+ years in the industry - you're joining an established consultancy with deep institutional relationships, not a startup finding its footing.Direct exposure to recruitment strategy - in a small team, you're not executing someone else's plan. You're close to the strategy, the university partner, and the outcomes. This is a role where you see how the decisions you make translate to results.Professional growth - working with university partners at a strategic level, contributing to how recruitment models evolve, and building expertise in conversion-focused approaches that the broader industry is moving toward.Remote flexibility with purposeful travel - planned school visits and agency events during peak periods, not year-round road time.Your work is visible - in a team this size, there are no layers between your contribution and the result.
What you do matters, and it shows.
