Job Description
Overview
The Residential Design Build Manager is responsible for the end-to-end management of residential landscape projects, from initial client consultations through design and construction to final delivery. This role involves client engagement, design coordination, team leadership, construction oversight, financial management, and quality assurance to ensure that all projects meet high standards of excellence and customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Client Relations: Meet with key clients to understand their needs, preferences, and budget. Review the presentation of designs/proposals and adjust based on client feedback. Maintain ongoing communication with key clients throughout the project lifecycle to ensure satisfaction. Address any client concerns or changes promptly and professionally.
- Business Development & Market Research: Identify new business opportunities and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to encourage repeat business. Have oversight the preparation of proposals, bids, and contracts for new projects. Conduct market research to identify emerging trends, opportunities, and threats within the residential landscaping industry. Stay informed of industry trends, competitor activities, and client preferences to maintain a competitive edge. Collaborate with the marketing team to develop strategies that promote the company\’s services and expand market presence.
- Project Planning and Design: Oversee the development of comprehensive landscape design plans using CAD software or other design tools. Review detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets, and material requirements. Collaborate with designers, superintendents and other landscape professionals to integrate landscape designs with existing structures and systems.
- Leadership: Lead and manage design and construction teams, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Delegate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring team members are clear on their roles. Provide training mentorship, and performance evaluations to team members. Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulations.
- Construction Oversight: Oversee and provide feedback of all phases of the construction planning and sequencing, ensuring project plans are built according to design specifications. Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress and quality of work and compliance of plans. Mentor the field superintendents and help them resolve any issues or challenges that arise during construction swiftly and efficiently. Review direct reports relationship with subcontractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
- Financial Management: Develop and manage monthly budgets ensuring financial efficiency and cost control. Track project expenses and ensure cost control measures are in place. Approve purchases of materials and equipment in line with budgetary constraints. Prepare financial reports and updates for executive team. Monitor indirect expenses such as administrative costs, repair and maintenance, and equipment depreciation to ensure overall profitability. Implement cost-saving initiatives, including efficient resource allocation and waste reduction across projects. Collaborate with executive team to forecast financial outcomes and create plans for long-term profitability and growth.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure that all work meets the company’s quality standards and client expectations. Conduct key final inspections and address any deficiencies. Implement and oversee quality control processes throughout the project.
Requirements
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in landscape design and construction, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture, Horticulture, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions
- Combination of office and field work.
- May require working in various weather conditions.
- Occasional weekend or evening work may be necessary to meet project deadlines.
