Director of Sports Medicine and Performance
Saint Michael’s College seeks an experienced and innovative Director of Sports Medicine and Performance to provide leadership, vision, and oversight for all sports medicine and performance services supporting student‑athletes, including supervision and mentorship of staff and compliant communication with athletics administrators, physicians, campus partners, and external providers in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA. The Director oversees all administrative and clinical operations—such as inventory, insurance coordination, scheduling, reporting, staff management, Emergency Action Plans, and policy development—while delivering direct care consistent with National Athletic Trainers’ Association standards and promoting the highest levels of student‑athlete health, safety, and wellness.

Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a safe, clean, and organized athletic training room for the best quality care of NCAA student‑athletes.
- Operate under the supervision of the Team Physician and work closely with SMC Health Services.
- Provide care to student‑athletes which includes prevention, education, emergency care, evaluation, management, and rehabilitation of injuries and illnesses.
- Ensure that all student‑athletes complete yearly medical clearance.
- Maintain and administer proper injury and rehab records.
- Communicate with host athletic trainer when sending teams to competitions without an athletic trainer.
- Provide or assign practice and home contest coverage for athletic teams.
- Travel or assign coverage for athletic teams’ away practices and games as appropriate.
- Schedule staff for athletic training room coverage.
- Provide oversight of the strength and conditioning coach, discuss patterns for injury prevention, and support the coach’s efforts.
- Allocate budget efficiently to ensure that athletic training room and varsity weight room standards are met.
- Organize inventory and purchasing in an orderly manner.
- Oversee communication and management of student‑athlete health insurance and secondary athletics insurance policy.
- Submit annual and special reports to department, campus, or governing bodies as required.
- Submit annual performance evaluation for professional athletic training staff and strength and conditioning coach under supervision.
- Follow NATA/BOC Standards of Practice and Scope of Practice.
- Participate in departmental and campus‑wide learning opportunities to further develop awareness, skills, and knowledge in supporting and fostering inclusion and belonging for students and colleagues.
- Value cultural, ethnic, gender, and other individual differences in people; help create an environment of learning about, valuing, encouraging, and supporting differences.
- Certify athletic training staff and department staff in first aid/CPR/AED requirements.
- Represent the Sports Medicine department at athletic department, campus, State of Vermont, NE10, and other necessary meetings.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree with 3-5 years of experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer; Master’s Degree preferred.
- Experience in supervisory role preferred.
- CSCS experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office products.
- Proficiency with injury tracking software.
Licenses and Certifications
- NATA Certified Athletic Trainer.
- State of Vermont Licensed Athletic Trainer or eligible.
- Certified in First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer (instructor certified preferred).
- Valid driver’s license in good standing.
