Job Description
The English Teacher delivers instruction related to reading, writing, and language skills, helping students analyze and understand literature while developing effective communication skills. This role involves developing lesson plans, assessing student progress, and creating a classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, creativity, and clear expression. Instruction may also include journalism, media writing, and related communication studies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons that align with the assigned course curriculum.
- Foster a classroom environment that encourages respectful dialogue, literary analysis, and the exchange of ideas.
- Incorporate a variety of teaching methods and resources to meet the diverse needs of students.
- Assess and evaluate students' understanding through classroom discussions, assignments, and tests.
- Provide guidance and support to students to develop their reading comprehension, writing proficiency, and critical thinking skills.
- Participate in school-wide events, including religious services, retreats, and other faith-based activities.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English or a related field.
- Master's degree preferred.
- Experience in secondary education.
- Strong understanding of English curriculum, including reading, writing, grammar, and literary analysis.
- Ability to engage and motivate students of all skill levels.
- Proficient in email communication, word processing, and presentation software, including tools within Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
This position requires a background check, and the employee must complete the Safe Environment Training course offered through the Archdiocese of Louisville. The course must be completed within 30 days of employment.
