Marana Health is seeking a Chief Safety Officer to join the Administration team at the Marana Main Health Center, located in the heart of Marana, AZ. The Chief Safety Officer will lead the organization’s safety program to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors. Works closely with clinical, operational, and executive leadership to identify risks, support compliance, and implement processes that improve safety across all areas of the organization.
This role provides oversight of safety-related activities, including incident reporting, risk mitigation, and emergency preparedness, and supports a proactive approach to identifying and addressing potential safety concerns. The Chief Safety Officer helps drive consistency in safety practices, promotes accountability, and supports a culture focused on continuous improvement and high-quality, patient-centered care.
The following qualifications are required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in healthcare, including safety, risk management, or operations
- Experience with regulatory compliance and safety programs in a healthcare setting
- Experience leading initiatives across multiple departments or service lines Fingerprint Clearance Card through the Arizona Department of Public Safety
- Current Arizona driver’s license with clean driving record and proof of current vehicle insurance (39-month MVR will be run by MH)
The following qualifications are preferred:
- Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, or related field)
- Experience in an FQHC or similar healthcare setting
- Certification in patient safety, healthcare quality, or risk management (e.g., CPPS, CPHRM)
- Experience with accreditation or regulatory surveys
Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if applicable and must be directly related to the functions and body of knowledge required to successfully perform the job.
This position has the following supervisory responsibilities:
Director/Executive: Manages and monitors work performance of a division or department through direct reports and their teams, including evaluating work objectives and effectiveness, establishing broad organizational goals, and provisioning work and staffing assignments for the department.
The ideal candidate will also possess the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:
- Strong understanding of healthcare safety practices, risk management, and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of patient safety, workplace safety, and infection control principles
- Ability to identify risks and implement solutions to reduce incidents and improve outcomes
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
- Ability to use data and incident reporting to identify trends and drive improvements
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work across departments and leadership levels
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond to urgent situations as needed
- Strong project management and organizational skills
- Ability to collaborate effectively with clinical, operational, and executive leadership
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads the organizations Just Culture framework, ensuring a balance approach to accountability that prioritizes learning, system improvement, and psychological safety.
- Promotes a transparent, non-punitive, reporting environment that encourages identification of errors, near misses, system vulnerabilities, to further Marana Health as a High Reliability Organization.
- Leads organizational readiness and response for accreditation and regulatory surveys (such as Joint Commission, HRSA, OPA, OIG).
- Establishes and maintains continuous survey readiness infrastructure.
- Aligns safety, compliance, and quality programs with accreditation and regulatory standards
- Owns how the Marana Health system learns, protects, and improves through a culture of safety
- Leads development and oversight of the organization’s safety program
- Identifies safety risks and works with leadership to implement mitigation strategies
- Oversees incident reporting, investigation, and follow‑up to ensure appropriate resolution
- Monitors safety trends and identifies opportunities for improvement
- Partners with clinical and operational leadership to improve patient and workplace safety
- Ensures compliance with applicable safety regulations and standards
- Supports infection control and emergency preparedness efforts in coordination with appropriate teams
- Leads safety‑related initiatives and promotes best practices across the organization
- Provides guidance and support to leadership on safety-related concerns and incidents
- Promotes a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement
- Provides updates and recommendations to executive leadership
