Job Opportunity: Queens Estate Retirement Residence
Reporting to the General Manager, the Food Services Manager manages all aspects of dining services to meet residents' nutritional needs and ensures efficient preparation and delivery within legislative and budgetary requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manages the development, delivery and performance of the food services program ensuring that applicable legislative guidelines and expectations are followed.
- Liaises with the Manager of Care on the nutritional assessment of residents.
- Ensures food is prepared in accordance with health guidelines, including administering regular testing for quality assurance.
- Ensures maintenance, cleanliness and proper usage of all equipment in production area.
- Assists with cooking where coverage is needed.
- Controls storage, inventory and minimizes waste.
- Orders and receives food and kitchen supplies within budgetary constraints and monitoring inventory.
- Executes and maintains new food programs and policies as required.
- Participates in HR duties, including recruitment, staff orientation, in-service training, scheduling, regular performance reviews, and assists in staff development and coaching.
- Investigates and resolves employee and resident complaints and concerns.
- Ensures a hands‑on approach by meeting with residents regularly to assess/discuss food service needs and preferences.
- Keeps the General Manager promptly and fully informed of relevant day‑to‑day operations.
- Assists in long‑range planning and recommends improved procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least five (5) years experience in dietary management; retirement experience an asset.
- Red Seal Certification preferred.
- Previous experience with leadership best practices and principles.
- Strong knowledge of financial management practices and budget processes.
- Comfortable with various computer applications, including Microsoft Office, electronic systems, etc.
- Strong familiarity with legislative regulations and policies related to food preparation and service.
- Must be familiar with all applicable health and safety legislation, knowledge of potential or actual dangers to health or safety in the workplace and appropriate actions to ensure the health and safety of staff.
