Freelance - Senior Technical Recruiter (Product Engineering)
Location: New York, NY
Freelance Senior Technical Recruiter (Product Engineering) role at WPP is a senior end‑to‑end recruitment role with responsibility for niche product engineering roles. You will work as a specialist for the Product Engineering business, operating as a trusted TA subject‑matter expert, and will be responsible for the full lifecycle of talent acquisition, from strategic sourcing to offer negotiation and onboarding preparation.
Responsibilities
- Proactively collaborate with Product Engineering hiring managers and senior leaders to understand technical roadmaps, strategic objectives, and long‑term talent needs; provide market insights and competitive intelligence.
- Deliver the entire recruitment process for highly specialised, senior product engineering roles (e.g., Principal Engineers, Architects, Engineering Managers, Staff Engineers, Senior DevOps/SRE, Data Science Leads, Technical Product Leaders).
- Develop and execute sophisticated multi‑channel sourcing strategies, including proactive talent mapping and engagement of highly passive, in‑demand technical candidates.
- Provide a high‑touch candidate experience, acting as a brand ambassador for WPP and ensuring clear, empathetic, professional communication at every stage.
- Gather and synthesize market intelligence on talent availability, compensation benchmarks, and competitor activity to inform hiring strategies.
- Lead the development and promotion of the WPP Data, Tech Solutions employer brand within the product engineering community through strategic content, events, and partnerships.
Qualifications
- Proven experience (8+ years) in full‑cycle talent acquisition with a focus on recruiting product engineering talent in fast‑paced, high‑growth, complex enterprise or agency environments.
- Knowledge of modern software development methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Kanban) and the product development lifecycle.
- Experience navigating large, matrixed organizations, managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities; global or multi‑brand experience an advantage.
- “Builder” mindset – proactive, self‑starter attitude with experience setting up or scaling recruitment functions, processes, or teams.
- Expert‑level proficiency in direct sourcing techniques and tools, with a track record of engaging passive, in‑demand technical talent.
- Experience applying AI‑enabled sourcing approaches and recruitment technologies to improve efficiency and candidate engagement.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and relationship‑building skills with hiring managers, leadership, and candidates.
- Data and metrics orientation – proficiency using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and recruitment analytics to drive insights.
- Strong persuasion, negotiation, and closing skills.
Benefits and Compensation
60,000 - 140,000 USD. Competitive benefits package. Hybrid working model with teams in the office around four days a week; accommodations and flexibility are discussed during interview process.
