The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is seeking Gastroenterologists to join our dedicated team and serve our nation’s heroes. As a Gastroenterologist at the Central Texas Veterans Health Care System, you will perform various gastrointestinal procedures in the day procedure unit and potentially other appropriate settings. You will take rotational call on nights and weekends for inpatients, ensuring continuous care for our veterans.
In addition to clinical duties, you will be involved in administrative tasks, teaching, and committee assignments as delegated by the Chief of Gastroenterology. You will mentor Internal Medicine residents and Gastroenterology Fellows in both outpatient and inpatient settings, providing timely and constructive feedback to advance the field.

Compensation and Benefits
- Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Education Debt Reduction: Eligible for student loan repayment over five years, plus additional education loan repayment possibilities.
- Recruitment Incentive: Sign-on bonus authorized.
- Competitive Salary and Bonuses: Pay range $350,000–$390,000 per year, competitive salary, annual performance bonus, and regular salary increases.
- Generous Paid Time Off: 50–55 days of annual leave, including 26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 11 paid federal holidays.
- Retirement Benefits: Traditional federal pension with five years vesting and a federal 401K with contributions up to 5% from the VA.

Basic Requirements
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA policy.
- Education: Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine degree from an accredited school as approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year of completion.
- License: Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a U.S. state, territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
- Residency Training: Completion of residency in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification; VA academic appointments may require board certification for faculty status. Approved residencies include: (1) ACGME-accredited, (2) AOA-accredited; or equivalent in non-U.S. residencies with five years of verified U.S. practice.
- Other residencies: Non-U.S. residency training followed by at least five years of verified U.S. practice may be considered by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee as providing appropriate training.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
