Head of Avionics

We’re working with a well-funded engineering-led company developing advanced autonomous systems at scale. The founding team has a strong track record of building and delivering complex hardware platforms and is now entering a critical phase of growth.

They are hiring a Head of Avionics to take ownership of a highly integrated hardware and embedded systems stack.

The Role

This is a hands‑on technical leadership position where you’ll define system architecture while staying close to implementation.

You’ll be responsible for building and scaling a robust avionics platform across embedded systems, sensing, compute, and system integration—working closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver reliable, high‑performance systems.

Responsibilities

• Define and own system architecture across hardware and embedded software
• Lead development of integrated sensing, compute, and control systems
• Oversee system integration across multiple environments
• Establish validation and testing frameworks (HIL/SIL)
• Act as the technical point of reference for system‑level decisions
• Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, and systems teams

Requirements

• 10+ years in avionics, embedded systems, or similar
• Experience architecting and delivering complex hardware systems
• Strong understanding of embedded systems and system‑level tradeoffs
• Experience working in high‑reliability or safety‑critical environments
• Ability to operate both strategically and hands‑on

Nice to Have

• Background in robotics, autonomy, or complex electromechanical systems
• Experience in early‑stage or fast‑scaling environments
• Exposure to networking, sensing systems, or secure hardware
