Head of Engineering PE-Backed GovTech SaaS Company Tallahassee, FL (preferred) | Select Remote The Company Our client is a PE-backed SaaS company building secure, compliance-driven software for state and local government agencies , including law enforcement and EMS. Their platform supports online training, testing, audits, and compliance workflows for organizations handling highly sensitive data. The business is profitable, growing, and in an active phase of platform modernization, new product development, and acquisition integration , with a credible near-term exit on the horizon. The Role We’re hiring a Head of Engineering to own engineering execution, technical architecture, and cloud infrastructure across a mission-critical SaaS platform. This role sits at the intersection of people leadership, technical decision-making, and business priorities . You’ll lead a small, experienced team through legacy modernization while continuing to ship new features and integrate newly acquired products. This is a strong fit for a Director or VP-level engineering leader ready to step into broader ownership and visibility. What You’ll Own Lead and mentor a team of ~6 full-stack engineers plus a BA/Product Manager Serve as the senior technical decision-maker across architecture and platform direction Own cloud infrastructure and application reliability (Azure) Drive ongoing modernization, including migration from legacy Perl to .NET Balance technical debt reduction with new feature delivery Partner closely with executive leadership on prioritization, roadmap tradeoffs, and exit readiness Support light API integrations across products and workflows Bring a product-oriented mindset to engineering planning and execution Evaluate emerging technologies (including AI) in a regulated, sensitive-data environment This role is not day-to-day coding, but it does require technical depth , architectural judgment, and the ability to dive in when needed.
