Job Description
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Health and Safety Coordinator to join our team. In this role, you will support the Health & Safety team in ensuring compliance with Occupational Health & Safety (OHS), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and other regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in the ongoing development, enhancement, and verification of safety elements, helping to foster a positive safety culture at all levels of the organization across all four locations (a 20‑minute drive of one another in the North York area).
Key Requirements to Highlight: Must have a strong understanding of Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) regulations and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Requires a hands-on approach to audits, inspections, and hazard control. Needs excellent communication skills to engage with all levels of the organization.
Responsible for the enforcement of standards and corrective actions. Key Duties and Responsibilities: Compliance & Program Development: Support the H&S team in ensuring compliance with OHS, GMP, and other applicable requirements by ongoing development, enhancement, and verification of health and safety elements. Maintain comprehensive health and safety programs, including the Maintenance and revision of policies, procedures, and employee training materials. 2.Audits, Inspections, & Investigations: Participate in workplace audits, safety inspections, and investigations related to health and safety incidents, near misses, or concerns; document findings and recommend corrective actions.
Support the effectiveness of hazard control programs and assist with workplace inspections of equipment, racking systems, the physical environment, and building structures to identify potential health and safety hazards. 3.Training & Communication: Deliver safety training and education to employees, supervisors, and stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of occupational health and safety responsibilities. Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization to promote a positive safety culture and ensure alignment with legislative requirements. 4.Enforcement & Corrective Action: Enforce compliance with internal safety standards and government health and safety regulations, including initiating and tracking corrective actions when necessary to mitigate risks. Qualifications: Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Professional designation (e.g., CRST) or working towards one is considered an asset. 2 years of experience in a health and safety role, preferably in a manufacturing, industrial, or GMP-regulated environment. Strong knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Acts & Applicable regulations, and familiarity with GMP standards. Experience conducting workplace inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations.
Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct thorough root cause analyses. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and safety management software.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment. Working Conditions: A combination of office environment and time spent on the production floor or warehouse in a ratio of 30/70 % May involve walking, standing, and climbing (e.g., ladders, mezzanines) during inspections. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required when in operational areas.
Shift flexibility is required.
