Job Description
Overview
As a Lab Technician at Atotech Canada Ltd., a subsidiary of MKS Instruments, Inc., you will play a key role in analyzing customer plating solutions, recommending adjustments, and ensuring consistent, high-quality results. You will report directly to the Technical Center Manager.
Responsibilities
- Analyzing solutions to verify components are within recommended operating specifications using wet chemistry, instrumental methods, and plating techniques. Ensuring all analyses and reports are accurate.
- Communicating results and recommendations to customers by phone or written communication, and responding to questions about plating baths.
- Generating laboratory reports and maintaining organized files.
- Maintaining general laboratory cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and glassware.
- Training customer laboratory personnel and new Atotech team members.
- Corresponding with other laboratories, sales teams, technical service, and supervisors.
- Preparing and standardizing chemical reagents.
- Ordering laboratory supplies and equipment.
- Updating existing analytical procedures and developing new ones.
- Maintaining, disposing of, and organizing customer samples.
- Coordinating job responsibilities with other lab personnel.
- Providing troubleshooting support to customers.
- Updating customer information and tank sizes in the system.
- Organizing and maintaining the chemical supply cabinet and shelving.
- Performing equipment standardization and minor repairs.
- Continuously upgrading knowledge of new lab instruments.
- Supporting Quality Control as backup coverage during absences and vacations.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associates degree/college diploma in Chemistry from a recognized institution.
- Previous hands-on laboratory experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in reporting.
- Familiarity with inorganic analysis, AA, UV-Vis spectrometry.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a team environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly with customers by phone.
- Experience with additional instruments such as IC Chromatography, LECO S Determinator, CBS, TOC, cross-sectioning, and metallography (an asset).
- Prior experience in chemical manufacturing, preferably within the metal finishing industry.
- Excellent safety awareness and housekeeping practices.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Activities include sitting, standing, and typing for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and move objects as needed.
- Manual dexterity and coordination required.
- Frequent handling of objects at various heights.
- Clear communication and accurate information exchange required.
- Work performed in a professional office/manufacturing environment.
- Frequent use of computers and office equipment.
- Ability to read documents and details at close range.
- Typical workplace noise levels.

Compensation
Salary Range: $55,000–$60,000 CAD annually. This range reflects a reasonable expectation of pay for this position based on qualifications, experience, education, training, operational needs, and other factors.
