POSITION SUMMARY
The Lead Accountant oversees and provides high‑level recommendations and decisions, as well as leading projects within their scope from start to finish. The Lead Accountant supports Health First’s leadership teams across all levels to communicate financial positions, provide recommendations, analyze complex financial transactions, and apply generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Additionally, the Lead Accountant will proactively support the Corporate Finance leadership team in leading, mentoring and coaching Finance Associates.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Identifies balance sheet anomalies and recommends the correct course of action in consultation with relevant leadership.
- Organizes high‑risk balance sheet write‑ups as assigned.
- Oversees, reviews, and approves standard journal entries within pre‑defined approval limits, sets them up, and posts journal entries with a high degree of complexity.
- Offers guidance and advice to Associates during the close process to ensure the close process is efficient and accurate; supports Finance goals, reporting and control requirements.
- Evaluates new transactions proactively to verify the appropriate accounting treatment is applied.
- Aids leadership by monitoring specific entities and transaction cycles during the close process to verify completion in a timely manner.
- Supports Finance goals, reporting and control requirements which may include.
- Arranges and reviews various tax returns, including 990.
- Prepares bank reconciliations for entities with a high difficulty level, and high‑risk account reconciliations as assigned.
- Reviews medium and high‑risk account reconciliations, as well as sales and use tax.
- Provides significant support and leads various financial audits.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a relevant field.
- Work Experience: Extensive experience in accounting analysis.

- Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
- Expertise and knowledge in the use of software packages such as PeopleSoft Financials, Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Windows.
- Extensive knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures of GAAP.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Enthusiasm and high level of job interest.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Computer abilities as well as oral and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates the ability to relate well with all customers and peers.
- Ability to prioritize and organize to maximize quality, value, and service.
- Applies fundamental accounting and financial concepts necessary to analyze the financial position of the organization.
- Ability to remain current on all financial regulations and standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master’s degree in Accounting, or Finance.
- Work Experience: Experience in the Healthcare industry.
- Licensure: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) licensure in the State of Florida.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
- Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
- Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
- May be exposed to indoor environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
- Communicating with others to exchange information.
- Visual acuity and hand‑eye coordination to perform tasks.
- Workspace may vary from open to confined.
- May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
