Pay Range: $60 to $70/hr
Job Description:
A leading retail technology organization is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to join its Digital Technology team. This role will focus on building scalable, high-performance cloud-based web and mobile applications that enhance the customer experience across digital platforms.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader with strong expertise in modern frontend architecture, React development, and scalable application design. This individual will collaborate closely with product managers, UX designers, backend engineers, and QA teams to design and deliver responsive, high-quality user experiences.
In addition to development responsibilities, the Lead Engineer will mentor developers, contribute to shared component libraries, and guide best practices in coding, accessibility, and performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop modular, scalable frontend applications using modern JavaScript frameworks.
- Build responsive mobile-first web and mobile user interfaces with a strong focus on performance and usability.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, UX, backend engineering, and QA to deliver high-quality digital solutions.
- Develop and maintain shared UI component libraries to support rapid development across engineering teams.
- Write clean, maintainable, and testable code following best practices and modern development standards.
- Participate in code reviews and enforce high-quality engineering standards.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to mid-level and junior engineers.
- Promote accessibility standards and responsive design principles across all applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues and performance challenges.
- Lead complex technical initiatives and contribute to architecture discussions and solution design.
- Foster a collaborative environment that encourages innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
- 6+ years of professional software development experience using JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3.
- 4+ years of experience with React or React Native, including functional components and hooks.
- 3+ years of experience with statically typed programming languages such as Go, C, C++, or Rust.
- Strong understanding of server-side rendering (SSR), asynchronous request handling, and RESTful APIs.
- Experience working with Redux, TypeScript, and NoSQL databases.
- Strong knowledge of modern frontend architecture and responsive design principles.
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to coding best practices, documentation, and peer code reviews.
