Description
The Manager of Clinical Informatics – Process Lead works with assigned facilities in implementing strategies focused on the adoption of specific EHRs and point-of-care technology processes by physicians, clinicians, and others at LifePoint’ s facilities. This position reports to the Director of Clinical Informatics, Acute Systems within the Clinical HITS team, and actively collaborates with others in HITS, Quality, and others at the HSC to assure clinical processes and workflows are supported by the electronic solutions. Efforts are directed toward the goal of enhancing processes, build, and content that lead to increased safety, quality, efficiency and effectiveness of patient care in LifePoint facilities.
This role focuses on the impact of the technology on workflow of the physician and other clinicians, and works in various settings and with complex strategies to offer support and remove barriers to adoption.
This position uses knowledge of clinical processes, informatics, workflow, as well as system build and functionality to measurably improve clinical quality, clinician productivity, and patient/clinician satisfaction, along with meeting CMS and other compliance requirements. This role assists in the development of training materials and the execution of the strategy to prepare physicians and other clinicians for the adoption of electronic clinical systems. This individual helps define and communicate realistic expectations and develop executable plans for the education leading to transformation of patient care through automation and other clinical technologies.
This position must not only be highly skilled in communication with physicians, leaders and other stakeholders, but also must demonstrate expert ability in the functionality of the assigned core EHR systems and technology in which they are working.
This position requires credible clinical knowledge; an understanding of clinical informatics; experience in the development and implementation of CPOE electronic documentation and other point-of-care technologies; experience in creating training materials; experience interacting with the physician population, and interest in product and process enhancements. This position requires residence in the Nashville/Brentwood, TN area, and travel to facilities approximately 60%.
General Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Director of Clinical Informatics and peers to provide core system expertise and assistance as needed to successfully implement patient data automation and work through the system life cycle.
- Assists with change management efforts around the implementation of the clinical informatics software through the development, design and execution of change management / enhancement processes.
- Assists with the ongoing design and implementation of the clinical informatics software to enable the process of care in hospitals. This will be done working very closely with the LifePoint IT&S vendor resources as appropriate.
- Assists with the ongoing design and implementation of clinical informatics software to enable the process of care in hospitals.
- Assists with monitoring new system setup and training to ensure adherence with enterprise-wide operational, regulatory, and clinical process guidelines.
- Assists with the definition of content, build, and training needs for system enhancements related to CPOE, clinician documentation, and quality/patient safety initiatives.
- Assures industry and evidence based best practice will be implemented wherever possible to support the highest standard of care, meet regulatory requirements, and improve patient outcomes by working through the facility CNO.
- Assists hospitals and HSC departments in creating orientation programs for clinical staff related to changes in documentation systems.
- Assists with enhancement request identification, documentation and prioritization, as well as efforts to reduce variation of clinical processes throughout the enterprise.
- Provides hands on assistance and support of facilities in all phases of high stakes initiatives such as CPOE, BCMA, Physician documentation, etc.
- Engages with hospitals as they prepare for implementation of CPOE / Physician Documentation / MU requirements to ensure the processes and system functionality are working effectively and/or to identify areas that require refinement.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Graduate of Bachelor’s program in Nursing highly desired.
- Experience in using the core clinical system to which will be primarily assigned; prior experience with design, build and implementation is considered an asset.
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience in an acute care setting as a Registered Nurse; basic understanding of hospital operations and nursing process required.

- Experience in clinical informatics and clinical process improvement is required.
- Experience with integration of clinical process improvement with physician / clinician workflow and thought-flow.
- Constructive interpersonal skills that include effective written and verbal communication skills with all stakeholders.
- High level of presentation skills as well as curriculum and training tool development using principles of adult learning.
- Must be detail oriented, organized, and has the ability to multi-task.
- Is self-motivated and has the ability to work within the established policies, procedures and practices prescribed by the Corporation and the immediate supervisor
- Ability to demonstrate supportive relationships with peers, clients, partners, and corporate executives.
- Possesses the ability to effect change among diverse groups, especially as it relates to the use of technology in a clinical setting with Physicians as a part of the target audience.
- Exhibits knowledge of healthcare and particularly physician/clinician processes and workflows in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Recognizes the need to become more deeply engaged with teams and initiatives at certain points along a journey and is comfortable engaging at that level.
- Able to effectively communicate informatics and point-of-care technology initiatives and data to a range of audiences.
- Ability to demonstrate supportive relationships with peers, clients, partners, and corporate executives.

- Strong computer skills in the core EHR systems in use.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Requires prolonged sitting and some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports.
Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50 pounds occasionally. Work is performed in an office environment and involves frequent contact with staff and the public.
