Manager, Risk Management

Hackensack Meridian Health seeks a Manager of Risk Management to assess and manage preventive risk across our facilities. This role includes oversight of investigations, claims, and safety initiatives, providing on‑call support and leading committees to enhance a culture of safety.

Responsibilities

• Provide prompt notification of claims or lawsuits to the Regional Risk Director, network office and facilitate defense with external counsel.
• Develop a safety culture encouraging reporting and monitor the Onelink adverse event reporting system, providing interventions as needed.
• Inform site leadership of significant organizational risk activity and collaborate with stakeholders and local leaders.
• Ensure timely response to urgent matters, complete trend analysis of occurrence reports, and provide risk exposure data to relevant departments.
• Implement risk‑management strategies and new programs to foster safety for patients, visitors, team members and customers.
• Provide statistical analysis for review by committees and collaborate with the Quality/Patient Safety department on root‑cause analysis.
• Work with Patient Experience and Quality/Patient Safety leadership to respond to patient grievances and recommend disposition strategies.
• Oversee and direct the ONElink occurrence reporting process on site.
• Cooperate with outside counsel to obtain necessary documentation and resolution of claims.
• Offer 24/7 on‑call assistance for emergent risk‑management issues and investigate/coach staff on risk‑related matters.
• Lead survey activity for state and federal agencies as needed and assist with subpoenas, summonses and complaints.
• Investigate and analyze claims and litigation, including:
  • Obtain and sequester evidence.
  • Gather visit history and medical records.
  • Notify liability insurance carriers and perform coverage analysis.
  • Process claims within policy period with carriers and brokers.
  • Coordinate discovery activities (document production, interrogatories, depositions).
• Provide in‑service education on risk‑management topics and deliver risk‑management reports to stakeholders.
• Participate in the network Early Event Resolution Committee and other committees such as RCA/ACA/PI teams, Patient Safety Committee, Safety Council, etc.
• Lead or co‑lead facility committees, ensuring data flow and facilitation.
• Represent the Corporate Risk Management Department on system‑wide committees and provide data/analysis for leadership review.
• Deliver risk‑management services to HMH affiliated companies and assist the insurance team with data gathering and renewals.
• Circulate FDA recall alerts and ensure required actions are completed.
