Mechanical Estimator
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Estimator to support bidding and pre‑construction activities across commercial and light‑industrial projects. This role is well‑suited for a Journeyman tradesperson with strong hands‑on HVAC and plumbing experience who is ready to apply technical expertise in a desk‑based, detail‑driven role. The Mechanical Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive estimates, supporting project handoff, and contributing to bid strategy and risk assessment.
Base Pay Range
CA$85,000.00/yr – CA$95,000.00/yr
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial and light‑industrial HVAC and plumbing projects
- Review drawings, specifications, and tender documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities
- Perform quantity take‑offs for mechanical systems including HVAC, piping, and plumbing
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
- Develop complete bid packages including labour, material, equipment, and subcontracted scopes
- Work closely with project managers and operations to ensure accurate project handoff
- Participate in value engineering, alternative solutions, and cost‑saving initiatives
- Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes
- Support bid reviews and post‑bid analysis
Qualifications & Experience
- Journeyman certification in HVAC, Plumbing, or Mechanical trades is required
- 5+ years of experience in commercial and/or light‑industrial mechanical construction
- Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, piping, and plumbing installations
- Prior estimating experience is an asset, but experienced field professionals are encouraged to apply
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and specifications
- Proficiency with estimating software, spreadsheets, and take‑off tools
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
- Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with internal teams
- Total compensation: $130,000–$150,000, including performance‑based incentives
