About the RoleThe Middle Years Subject Teacher is a subject expert who values conceptual understanding, and student agency and sees adolescence as a powerful stage for growth in identity, confidence, and purpose. You will teach your specialist subject (e.g., Language and Literature, Sciences, Mathematics, Individuals and Societies, Design, Arts, or Language Acquisition) with rigour and clarity, while helping students make meaningful connections between ideas, disciplines, and the real world.
Learning and Classroom PracticeYou will:Design and deliver high-quality, concept-driven lessons that develop deep disciplinary knowledge and critical thinking.Frame learning around big ideas, real-world contexts, and meaningful inquiry.Develop students' research, communication, and self-management skills alongside subject mastery.Differentiate instruction thoughtfully to support a range of abilities and learning profiles.
Student Wellbeing You will:Create a safe and stimulating classroom environment where students feel safe to ask questions, debate and take risks.Encourage thoughtful dialogue, collaboration, and responsible communication across diverse perspectives.Build strong, trust-based relationships that support students' academic confidence and personal growth during adolescence.
Assessment and Learning ProgressYou will:Design varied formative and summative assessments that challenge students to apply knowledge in unfamiliar contexts.Use clear criteria and constructive feedback to support progress and academic growth.Maintain accurate records of student achievement and contribute meaningfully to reporting processes.Support students in reflecting on their learning and setting purposeful academic goals.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration and Professional LearningYou will:Collaborate with colleagues to design connected learning experiences across subject areas.Work closely with learning support colleagues to ensure inclusive and accessible learning experiences.Serve as a home tutor, supporting students' social-emotional development and wellbeing.Engage actively in professional learning related to subject pedagogy and inquiry-based practice.Contribute to co-curricular activities, clubs, or initiatives aligned with your interests and expertise.
Qualifications & ExperienceStrongly PreferredPost-Graduate degree in the specialist subject, with Bachelor's or other recognised qualification in education.2-3 years of teaching experience in middle or secondary years in an international curriculum school.Strong subject expertise and experience in designing criterion-based assessments and interdisciplinary learning experiences.Excellent communication, organisation, and classroom management skills.DesirableCompletion of IB Category 1 or 2 workshop.Experience in an authorised IB school.Experience in mentoring independent student projects.
