Overview
RWJBarnabas Health’s Northern Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery is seeking a Heart Transplant & Cardiothoracic Surgeon for the Heart Failure and Transplant Program at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center. The surgeon will provide comprehensive adult cardiothoracic surgical care and serve as a key operative leader in heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support (MCS).
Responsibilities
- Perform heart transplantations and donor procurement.
- Manage temporary and durable MCS (LVAD, RVAD, ECMO).
- Lead operative teams in heart transplantation and MCS procedures.
- Extend advanced cardiac surgical services across RWJBarnabas Health Northern affiliates.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in the Heart Failure and Transplant Program.
Qualifications
- MD or DO, fellowship‑trained in cardiothoracic surgery.
- Specific expertise in heart transplantation, ventricular assist devices, and complex cardiac surgery.
- Proven clinical experience performing heart transplants and managing MCS.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary range: $550,000 – $700,000, dependent on education, skills, and experience. Benefits include health, life, disability, malpractice insurance, 401(k) retirement plan, PTO, and additional time off for CME.
