Modern Indian Pastry Chef – Upscale Casual Restaurant
Position Overview
The Modern Indian Pastry Chef will lead the creation and execution of an elevated dessert program that blends the heritage of Indian sweets with contemporary pastry techniques. This role requires a chef with strong classical training, deep familiarity with Indian flavors, and the creativity to present desserts with a modern, artistic sensibility. The ideal candidate brings precision, innovation, and a commitment to delivering memorable, high‑end dining experiences.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop a refined dessert menu that reimagines Indian classics through modern techniques, seasonal ingredients, and elegant presentation.
- Lead all pastry operations, including recipe development, production, plating, and quality control.
- Collaborate closely with the Executive Chef to ensure dessert offerings complement the restaurant’s culinary vision and tasting menus.
- Create house‑made breads, ice creams, sorbets, chocolates, and specialty items aligned with the restaurant’s identity.
- Maintain impeccable standards of cleanliness, organization, and food safety within the pastry kitchen.
- Train, mentor, and supervise pastry cooks and support staff, fostering a culture of excellence and creativity.
- Manage inventory, ordering, and cost control for pastry ingredients and equipment.
- Innovate regularly through seasonal features, festive specials, and chef‑driven tasting experiences.
- Work with the beverage team to develop thoughtful dessert pairings, including dessert wines, cocktails, and non‑alcoholic options.
- Participate in menu tastings, photoshoots, media opportunities, and special events as needed.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Pastry Chef, Pastry Sous Chef, or equivalent role in an upscale, fine‑dining, or Michelin‑level environment.
- Strong foundation in classical pastry techniques with a deep understanding of Indian flavors, ingredients, and regional dessert traditions.
- Demonstrated creativity and an eye for modern plating and presentation.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high‑pressure, detail‑driven environment.
- Strong understanding of pastry kitchen financials, including cost control and inventory management.
- Culinary or pastry degree preferred, though exceptional experience may substitute.
