Payroll Officer
Davies Stewart
Adelaide, Australia Full Time Operations Jobs Australia
Job Description
Davies Stewart is proud to partner with a leading, family-oriented Construction and Property Group in Adelaide. This organisation is defined by its visionary leadership and a deeply trusted reputation built over decades. We are seeking a meticulous Payroll / HR Coordinator who thrives at the intersection of precise data management and people-centric HR support.
This is a rare opportunity to manage a diverse portfolio where your financial acumen ensures everyone is paid accurately, while your administrative expertise supports the entire employee lifecycle.
Why You’ll Love This Role
- Master Both Worlds: Bridge the gap between technical payroll and dynamic HR, managing end-to-end weekly/monthly processing while driving recruitment coordination and culture-building activities.
- Champion Wellbeing: Beyond the numbers, you will act as the Health & Wellbeing Coordinator, managing events, flexible work requests, and initiatives that make a tangible difference to the team’s daily lives.
- Strategic Visibility: Use your advanced Excel skills to support HR Analytics and Reporting (including WGEA and board reports), providing the data-driven insights that steer the Group's people strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute end-to-end weekly and monthly payroll, ensuring compliance with relevant awards and construction-specific agreements.
- Manage STP submissions, superannuation clearing house reconciliations, and complex non-routine calculations (terminations, leave cash-outs).
- Oversee apprentice invoice coding and entry into the ERP (Jobpac) for weekly payments.
- Handle statutory payments including Payroll Tax, WorkCover, BIRST, and Portable Long Service Leave.
- Facilitate the recruitment lifecycle: coordinate interviews, conduct phone screenings, and manage reference checks.
- Issue employment agreements, manage onboarding/offboarding workflows in the HRIS (UKG), and maintain accurate digital records.
- Proactively monitor credentials and expiry dates to ensure full compliance across the workforce.
- Provide generalised administrative support, from updating position descriptions to managing the HR inbox.
Analytics & Compliance
- Support the completion of monthly HR metrics, quarterly board reports, and annual WGEA reporting.
- Identify opportunities for process optimisation and automation to reduce manual effort and enhance service delivery.
What You Will Bring
We are looking for a candidate who balances high-level attention to detail with the interpersonal skills needed to build trust across all levels of the business.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years in a demonstrated payroll and HR administration role.
- Technical Savvy: Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Excel skills are essential. Previous experience with UKG and Jobpac is highly desirable.
- Industry Knowledge: Experience within the construction or engineering sector is preferred, as is a basic understanding of bookkeeping and general reconciliations.
- Attributes: A strong work ethic aligned with values of transparency, accountability, and "Family Focus"—bringing care and good humour to the workplace.
Company Benefits on Offer
- Professional development & training allowance
- Additional 5 days of annual leave per year
- $500 annual wellbeing allowance
- Initiatives to drive a connected & collaborative culture
