Job DescriptionJob DescriptionNow Hiring a Plate Fitter/Fabricator in the Carnegie, PA area.Key Responsibilities and DutiesBlueprint Interpretation: Study engineering drawings, blueprints, and layouts to plan the sequence of tasks.Layout and Marking: Compute layout dimensions and mark reference points, curves, holes, and welding symbols onto metal stock using scribes, soapstones, and punches.Fabrication and Assembly: Position, align, and fit metal parts and plates for welding, riveting, or bolting, often using heavy machinery (presses, shears, rolls).Precision Alignment: Use jigs, fixtures, clamps, turnbuckles, and tack-welding to ensure components meet strict tolerance specifications.Material Handling: Move large, heavy workpieces using overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts.Inspection: Verify completed work using measuring instruments like squares, tapes, and gauges to meet quality standards.Required Skills and QualificationsTechnical Expertise: Proficient in reading blueprints, understanding welding symbols, and using metalworking machinery.Tools: Skilled in using hand tools, power tools, grinders, and torches.Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy materials, work at heights, or work in confined spaces.Math Skills: Strong knowledge of geometry and trigonometry for layout calculations.Experience: Previous experience in welding, structural steel fabrication, or shipbuilding is often required.Work EnvironmentPlate fitters often work in noisy, industrial environments such as shipyards, manufacturing plants, or construction sites.
