Overview
Primary Care Physician employment in California for Valor Healthcare, a contractor for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Valor operates more than 30 VA Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and provides a full range of medical services to veterans, including primary care, diagnostics, laboratory, telehealth, and behavioral health.

Position Summary
The Primary Care Physician diagnoses and treats diseases and injuries of human internal organ systems and delivers preventive and therapeutic treatment of primary care needs, including chronic disease management, through routine physical examinations, testing, and non-invasive treatment. This includes strong communication with fellow team members to ensure the expectations of Patient Aligned Care Team metrics are met.
Core Responsibilities
- Actively diagnoses and treats our veterans.
- Examines patients for symptoms of organic or congenital disorders, determines nature and extent of injury/disorder, and performs comprehensive physical examinations.
- Develops and implements patient management plans and assists in provision of continuity of care.
- Orders and performs diagnostic tests.
- Prescribes medication and recommends dietary and activity programs as indicated by diagnosis.
- Counsel patients on the use of prescription medications, educates patients, assesses mental health issues, and provides routine health maintenance.
- Evaluates patients' records from medical providers outside the VA and works with these patients utilizing rules set forth by the VA for co-managed care.
- Completes clinical reminders due at the time of each patient visit.
- Completes the documentation of the medical record within 24 hours of a patient encounter.
- Solicits medical management consult or input when appropriate.
- Complies with all VA guidelines regarding timely response to patient requests, alerts and notifications, consults, orders, lab results and diagnostic studies.
- Complies with the VA formulary process and consult protocols.
- Serves as a collaborative physician to mid-levels where appropriate and needed.
- Complies with VA guidelines for clinical documentation, including completion of all encounters by close of business.
- Addresses the clinical needs of walk-in/triage/urgent care patients.
- Complies with VA and company training requirements.
- Complies with VA requirements related to women\'s health certification and competencies, and maintains elements needed for such certification.
- Fulfills compliance requirements of the Office of Inspector General (OIG), Joint Commission (JC), Environment of Care (EOC) oversight, lab compliance and related items.
- Remains focused on achieving excellent clinical outcomes through VA guidelines.
- Provides excellent customer service to veterans, colleagues, and clinic visitors.
- Participates in the clinic\'s outreach events to support enrollment initiatives.
- Supports patient enrollment and retention by guiding scheduling and follow-up visits as needed.
- Embraces and supports new clinical or operational initiatives and contributes to Valor\'s strategic initiatives.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of clinical medical practice; government healthcare environment preferred; specific requirements vary by VA contract.
- Doctor of Medicine or Osteopathic Medicine Degree
- Board certified in family practice or internal medicine
- Must be credentialed and in good standing with the Veterans Health Administration (VA)
- Active, valid medical license in the state of employment or applicable VA contract requirements
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS as required by VA contract
- Current, unrestricted Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration
- Proficiency in written and spoken English
- Excellent computer skills
- Energetic and optimistic demeanor
- Strong service mentality with a focus on service standards
