Job Description
A leading international engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join its expanding Dublin team. This is a senior leadership role focused on delivering technically complex projects, driving innovation in mechanical design, and mentoring high-performing engineering teams.
You will take ownership of mechanical design delivery across major projects, acting as a key client interface while ensuring best-in-class engineering standards.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead mechanical design delivery from concept through to completion across multiple sectors
- Act as technical authority across HVAC, public health, and energy systems
- Manage and mentor multidisciplinary engineering teams
- Oversee design quality, compliance, and technical standards
- Engage directly with clients, stakeholders, and project partners
- Manage project budgets, programmes, and resource allocation
- Support business development, including bids and tenders
- Drive sustainable and energy-efficient design solutions
KEY PROJECTS
You will play a key role in delivering a range of high-profile developments, including:
- Large-scale data centre campus – cooling strategy, HVAC systems, and energy optimisation for mission-critical environments
- Major commercial office development – low-carbon, high-performance mechanical design aligned with sustainability targets
- Pharmaceutical / life sciences facility – complex HVAC and cleanroom design with strict regulatory compliance
EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 8–12+ years’ experience within building services / data centre / life sciences / commercial sectors
- Proven experience operating at Senior or Principal Engineer level
- Strong background in HVAC, heating/cooling systems, and public health design
- Experience delivering projects across the full design lifecycle
- Chartership (or working towards) highly desirable
- Experience with relevant design and modelling tools (e.g., IES, Hevacomp, Revit/BIM)
