Same Day Emergency Care Ward Clerk – Eastbourne District General Hospital Band 2, NHS AfC, contract: permanent with full‑time or part‑time options. 37.5 hours per week (7:30‑17:30, 4 days a week; part‑time hours may be considered). Job ref: 374‑LL0248. Salary £25,272 per annum (pro rata for part‑time).
Job Overview Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) is a busy hub providing urgent, safe and effective patient treatment. As a Ward Clerk you will manage timely reception duties and interact with members of the public and colleagues, ensuring patient records are available and electronic patient tracking systems are kept up to date in line with Trust policy. Main duties of the job Handle reception duties and the interaction with patients, the public and colleagues.
Respond to and resolve queries quickly and tactfully. Maintain accurate patient records and keep the electronic tracking system up to date. Provide comprehensive administrative and clerical support to the clinical area.
Work calmly under pressure, prioritise workload efficiently and use initiative. Demonstrate polite and caring interpersonal skills and manage challenging situations. Adhere to Trust values and behaviours.
Qualifications Good general education including English and Maths GCSE grade C or above, or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Evidence of personal development. Recognised relevant qualification such as customer service, administration, secretarial, IT (e.g.
ECDL). Experience Previous clerical/administration experience in a busy environment. Experience of keeping accurate record‑keeping and filing systems.
Customer care/service. Previous experience of working in the NHS or other healthcare setting. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities Ability to work to own initiative and as part of a team.
Accurate and methodical, able to prioritise and adapt to change. Work calmly under pressure. Familiarity with relevant NHS terminology and systems.
