We are looking for a consultant to help one of our clients build and improve core back-end communication services, processing pipelines and storage platforms. You will tackle challenges around performance optimization, parallelization, and scalability that come with the data demands of a high-traffic, constantly growing, and public website.

Responsibilities

• Assist in building and improving core back-end communication services, processing pipelines and storage platforms.
• Address performance optimization, parallelization, and scalability challenges for a high-traffic, growing public website.
• Collaborate with teams using open source technologies.

Qualifications & Key Skills

• Have a BS or MS in Computer Science or equiv.
• 4+ years’ experience programming data-driven applications in Java or PHP, making heavy use of SQL, preferably MySQL
• Experience with batch data processing
• Experience with high-volume data pipelines or high-availability queuing systems
• Experience with open source technologies like Hadoop, ActiveMQ, Kafka, Zookeeper, MySQL, PHP
• Ability to break down and solve complex problems by creating practical, maintainable, and scalable solutions; a desire to continuously learn
• Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in an agile, fast-paced environment
• Collaborative team player who listens and cares about peers
• Experience with Unix/Linux and scripting
• Ideal candidate would have experience with high-volume email systems and familiarity with Lucene/Solr
