ECS is seeking a Scrum Master to work in our Arlington, VA office.
A Scrum Master is responsible for facilitating and guiding the Scrum team in adopting and implementing the Scrum framework, which includes organizing and leading Scrum ceremonies, removing impediments, promoting collaboration, and ensuring adherence to Scrum principles and values.
Responsibilities
- Guide and coach the Scrum Team on Agile practices and principles to deliver high-quality products and services.
- Help the team reach a high‑performing level by recognizing strengths and areas for improvement, employing appropriate coaching and development techniques.
- Ensure Scrum is understood and the team adheres to Scrum theory, practice, and guidelines.
- Coach the Scrum team in self‑organization, cross‑functional skillset, domain knowledge, and effective communication both internally and externally.
- Work with Scrum Team, internal and external stakeholders, to influence decision making and support organizational project or product teams.
- Resolve team impediments with other Scrum Masters to increase the effectiveness of Scrum application in the organization.
- Work with Agile coaches and other Scrum Masters to grow within the role.
- Contribute to advancement and improvement of Agile practices within the organization.
- Facilitate and support all Scrum events: Sprint Planning, Daily Scrum, Sprint Review, and Sprint Retrospective.
- Act as a leader who coaches and supports Agile teams.
Required Skills
- At least three years of experience working in JIRA to manage ceremonies, capture sprint activities, record epics, stories, tasks, and other team activities, and develop reporting for leadership and stakeholders.
- Develop and provide brown‑bag sessions and training to JIRA users and management on best practices and applications for the agile process along with related reporting and summarizing activities in JIRA.
- Knowledge of Agile facilitation software such as Jira and Confluence.
- Bachelor’s degree and at least 4 years of product or project development experience, or 3 years of project development experience on an Agile Team, or 4 years of additional experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Demonstrated experience facilitating meetings at multiple levels of an organization and understanding of facilitation techniques.
- Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Certified Scrum Master.
- Exemplify and promote Agile values and principles.
- Outstanding communication, facilitation, negotiation, and coaching skills.
- Knowledge of an Agile framework or method (e.g., Scrum, Kanban), or understanding of software development life cycle models as well as in-depth knowledge of traditional project management principles and practices.
- Adept at refinement, story splitting, estimation, velocity, retrospection, and other Scrum techniques.
- Planning and problem solving with product management and delivery teams.
