Job Description
Role Overview:A Senior Architect in the construction industry is a leadership-level professional responsible for guiding the architectural vision of a project from concept to completion. They act as the bridge between design, engineering, regulatory authorities, and client expectations. Their primary aim is to ensure that projects are not only aesthetically compelling but also functional, sustainable, code-compliant, and delivered within budget and timeline constraints.
Key Responsibilities:1. Architectural Design LeadershipDevelop conceptual and schematic designs aligned with the client's vision and site constraints.Oversee detailed design development, ensuring architectural integrity, creativity, and feasibility.Incorporate innovative and sustainable design principles into building plans.Review and approve architectural drawings, models, and specifications prepared by junior staff or consultants.2. Project Coordination & OversightManage and coordinate design efforts across various disciplines (structural, MEP, landscape, etc.).Liaise regularly with project managers, civil engineers, and construction managers to ensure alignment between design and construction execution.Lead coordination meetings, design reviews, and milestone deliverables.3.
Client Engagement & CommunicationServe as the primary point of contact for the client on design-related matters.Translate client requirements into actionable architectural solutions.Prepare and deliver presentations, reports, and visualizations to communicate design concepts effectively.4. Regulatory Compliance & DocumentationEnsure designs comply with local zoning regulations, building codes, accessibility standards (e.g., ADA), fire safety, and environmental regulations.Prepare and submit planning applications, permit requests, and compliance documentation.Interface with city officials, code enforcement agencies, and legal authorities as necessary.5. Site Supervision & Construction SupportConduct periodic site visits to monitor design implementation, quality of workmanship, and adherence to specifications.Address field issues and provide architectural clarification or revisions as required during construction.Collaborate with contractors to resolve unforeseen site or design conflicts quickly and effectively.6.
Quality Assurance & Risk ManagementImplement design review processes to detect and mitigate risks early in the project.Enforce quality standards in design documentation and construction practices.Review project deliverables to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency.7. Team Leadership & MentoringLead and mentor junior architects, interns, and support staff.Facilitate internal training, knowledge sharing, and performance reviews.Foster a collaborative and innovative team culture.
Skills & Competencies:Proficiency in architectural design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Rhino, etc.)Deep understanding of construction methods, materials, and structural systemsStrong knowledge of local building codes, zoning laws, and permitting processesExcellent communication, leadership, and negotiation skillsAbility to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneouslyFamiliarity with BIM (Building Information Modeling) practices
Qualifications (Typical):Bachelor's or Master's degree in ArchitectureProfessional licensure (e.g., Registered Architect or equivalent)10+ years of architectural experience, including leadership rolesProven portfolio of successfully delivered construction projects
Minimum 10 years of experience in an Architectural Design firmShould have completed B.Arch with good AcademicsHandled large scale architectural project from Concept to project handoverExcellent design skills with proficiency in computer software desirableA keen eye for detail, as well as the ability to see the bigger picture of a project.Strong business writing and verbal communication skills.Be able to work calmly under pressure and lead, inspire and motivate teams.Be able to lead and manage Architectural and multidisciplinary projects within budgets.Willing to be associated for long termEager to work on large-scale/ township projects
