Job Description
Our client specializes in inspection and industrial services, combining innovative technologies, advanced data management, and state-of-the-art equipment. The Senior Health & Safety Specialist will support and advance the organization’s Health, Safety & Environmental programs across North America.
This is a highly hands-on role supporting both office and field operations throughout Canada and the United States. Reporting into leadership, this individual will be responsible for driving compliance, promoting a strong safety culture, supporting operational teams, and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Responsibilities:
Health & Safety Program Management:
· Lead the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of Health & Safety programs, policies, procedures, and initiatives across North American operations.
· Ensure compliance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation, ISO/OHSAS standards, and internal corporate policies.
· Support and maintain Integrated Quality, Safety, Health & Environmental Management Systems (QSHE).
· Promote and reinforce a proactive safety-first culture across office, field, and operational teams.
· Participate in project-specific HSE planning including Safe Work Execution Plans and Project Safety Plans.
· Lead regional and service center HSE performance initiatives and objectives.
Compliance, Auditing & Risk Management:
· Conduct workplace inspections, field audits, hazard assessments, and safety observations across operational locations.
· Investigate incidents, near misses, injuries, and non-conformances, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventative actions.
· Facilitate regulatory visits and maintain compliance with DOT and other applicable programs
· Manage external HSE qualification databases such as ISNetworld.
· Monitor safety metrics, corrective actions, and compliance activities while supporting continuous improvement initiatives.
Training & Employee Engagement:
· Conduct HSE orientations, toolbox talks, and employee training sessions.
· Support Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC) activities and employee involvement initiatives.
· Partner closely with operations, field teams, and leadership to ensure safety expectations are communicated and followed.
· Coach and support teams on HSE best practices and compliance requirements.
Strategic Initiatives & Continuous Improvement:
· Collaborate with leadership and operational teams to identify risks and implement safety improvements..
· Support emergency response planning, workers’ compensation claims, and return-to-work programs.
· Participate in audits, operational reviews, and company-wide HSE initiatives.
· Support HSE reporting, KPI dashboards, compliance documentation, and budget activities.
Requirements:
Education & Certifications:
· Postsecondary education in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related discipline.
· CRSP designation required.
· JHSC Certification required.
· Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification preferred.
· Additional certifications such as CHSC, NCSO, Working at Heights, First Aid/CPR, or related certifications are considered strong assets.
Experience:
· Minimum of 8 years of progressive HSE experience within manufacturing, industrial services, construction, engineering services, oil & gas, utilities, or related environments.
· Minimum of 5 years supporting field operations and multi-site environments.
· Proven experience implementing and auditing HSE programs in accordance with ISO and OHS/OHSAS standards.
· Strong understanding of Ontario Health & Safety legislation, industrial hygiene, and compliance requirements.
· Experience conducting audits, investigations, risk assessments, and corrective actions.
· Ability to travel up to 50% across North America.
· Valid passport or ability to obtain one.
